Lore is WIP

Alastor is a bartender. You know, those hipster ones that splice your drinks and set it up on fire just to call it lame names "Hell's martini" and pretend it's original. That is, if you overlook the fact that he works at a bar that's located between the realms of the living and the dead. And that his only customers are usually higher spirits or the occasional demon. Sometimes a wondering soul if he's lucky. His origins is shrouded in mystery, but that doesn't hold him back from a easy-going and cheerful attitude. Behind those eyes there are hints of hidden sadness laced inside, although no one dares to question it. Even if he is merely a bartender, he is also one of the most powerful beings equal that of a Higher demon (although many believe he may be more powerful, if he wasn't holding himself back). His eyes always shone of hidden intentions, and it is not above him to manipulate people to get what he wants. That being said, Alastore is not as cruel as he may seem.

That is why his bar is often known as a neutral territory in which no creature dares to disrupt (as well as being the fact that it is the only bar in existence between two plains). He also enjoys to paster Manevra whenever he visits, often to his dismay. He likes to call him Mani, but Manevra hates this nickname and Alastore knows it. They are often a clash in personalities, Alastore's cheerful and easygoing attitude versus Mani's serious and businesslike attitude. Despite their differences, they are both very tight friends. Mani will often say that he doesn't trust him very much as he knows very well of Alastore's uncanniness for manipulation. But there is no one that he trusts with his life more than Mani, and there is no one that Mani trusts with his life more than Alastore.

"A well-mannered encounter" by Angeleina

Today was one of those days where you would find Ruby trying to trick a vendor out of all of his rubies for the price of none. The Lustre Beast always loved the brilliant gems. It was one of his favorite things to do, collect rubies and hoard them. The more rubies he had, the happier he was and more excited he was to go find more. Now, others may call what he did a hustle, but he was, in fact, a very good businessman. His “persuasion” was a cold, calculative discussion in his victims’ eyes. One that they always seemed to lose.

“Rest assured my friend, your rubies will be in great hands.” Purred Ruby.

The look of hesitance on the vendors face slowly faded away until it was replaced with decisiveness. Taking out a small pouch of bright, shining red rubies, he held it out to the con artist. Just as Ruby was outstretching his arm to receive the precious gems, an obstacle obstructed his path to victory. Two beings who had been walking down the very same shady alley had seen the pair and had decided to approach them to see what they were doing.

“You really don’t want to sell your rubies to this one, Vendor. He will take everything you have and give you nothing, all while making it your own decision.” It was Alastore, the fancy bartender and Ruby’s sworn enemy. Beside him stood Manevra, the stone faced demon.

Ruby growled as the vendor seemed to shake himself out of whatever trance Ruby had put him in with his powers of influence and fled with all of his rubies in his satchel. As the would be victim disappeared behind a corner, Ruby whirled to meet the ones who ruined his plans.

“Alastore! How dare you!” Ruby spat. “You KNOW how hard it is to find Rubies now a days!”

It wasn’t rare to see them arguing about pretty much anything. In fact, Alastore was quite happy to do so. Being a cheerful individual himself and someone who loves to tease people, especially his friend Manevra, he enjoyed the ‘friendly’ bantering with Ruby. Alastore didn’t quite know when this rivalry had started but he did find it fun to keep it going. Usually though, the bantering was never anything really serious. Nothing ever came to violence between them. It was almost like an unspoken accord.

Shaking his head, he ignored Ruby and nudged Manevra in the side. The look that passed between them was subtle and only someone who was watching them as closely as Ruby would have noticed it. Ruby did notice it and grinded his teeth in frustration.

Grunting, Manevra shook his head also. “You shouldn’t deceive your buyers like that. You’ll never gain business trust that way.” Of course, he was only trying to be helpful in a good natured way. He understood what Ruby was doing as a fellow businessman, even though he’d never go so far as to con someone out of their valuables. He never really understood what was going on between them either, not that he really cared. Alastore may have been his friend but he wasn’t about to stick his nose into his friend’s affairs.

“Stay out of it.” snapped Ruby. “You always ruin the fun.” Those two nearly always appeared anytime he was doing something productive or having the least bit of fun. Granted, arguing with Alastore was also fun, but not when it caused him to lose his precious rubies!

Alastore chuckled darkly. He WAS the fun, and he made sure everyone knew it. Alastore had a pretty dark sense of humor. Manevra and Rubby both knew it, and decided not to say anything, thinking it better to leave the bartender to his own devices and see where that dark sense of humor got him one day. Ignoring Ruby again, he said to Manevra, “See Mani? What I tell ya, a stick in the mud?”

Sighing irritably, Manevra shot a look to his friend. “I told you know to call me that.” He did indeed dislike when Alestore called him that. Manevra was also a strong believer in rules and regulatuion. He encountered displeasure anytime a rule was broken or bent. That didn’t stop him from bending them his own twisted way though.

Laughing, Alastore and Manevra both started walking towards the side of town that held the bars, no doubt to get to work or take some time off, leaving Ruby to fume to himself. Grumbling and mumbling profanities under his breath, Ruby took off in the other direction, thinking of a new place he could find more rubies to hustle off another vendor. The next time he saw them, he would tell them what was on his mind. He probably wouldn’t.
