A bit of an angry little fella.
He has issues with his own mother, and ended up treating Sydney's mother as his own. So when she got sick and Sydney stopped inviting him over so much, he got jealous and lonely. Not only was he upset that Sydney wouldn't let him visit [out of respect for his mother] but he was angry that he wouldn't let mafu help out with cleaning, schoolwork or money. He became closed off, and started treating sydney like scum, when really, he just cared about them both, alot.
Mafumu ends up hangin with the 'cool' kids, they pressure him into smoking and drinking. Mafumu doesnt enjoy these activities, but he's gotten addicted, to smoking atleast. He copes with his addiction with strawberry pocky, which he just likes regardless.
He hangs out with this group of people specifically to spite sydney, and just a little to validate himself. Regardless of this group not being Sydneys type, he still makes an effort to be there for Mafumu, who always shoots him down. Sydney falls victim to bullying from this group.
