Lavender Dunes

The Lavender Dunes is a desert of approximately 400 km across, consisting of blue and purple crystalline sand. These grains of sand, although tiny, are very dangerous during the Windi Season, as they cut through cloth and skin. The Dunes are dotted with many large, pitch-black boulders, polished to a high gloss. Found in the desert are ancient blackstone structures, notably 20-meter tall spiral towers, wide blackstone slabs sticking upright in the sand, and groups of hollow cubes with circular entrances.

The Lavender Dunes is a large geographic area in the center of the Dactus continent, forming a natural barier for people traveling from one rim nation to another. The desert itself is populated by the Tyrian Coalition, a loose alliance of nomadic traders who transport cargo and individuals across the expanse. During the Windy Season, many Tyrians stay in the Tyrian Kasbah, a large blackstone structure located in the southwest of the desert.

The Lavender Dunes are home to a few species of giant insectoids and hard-skinned carnivorous plants. These creatures hibernate under the sand during the Windy Season and remain in Stasis while hunting, only activating themselves if prey is sensed nearby. The lifecycle of these creatures is difficult to measure due to their liberal use of Stasis. The desert is entirely devoid of water, and only species capable of surviving without water are found in the Dunes. However, several birds and flying insectoids are known for migrating across the desert during the Raini and Colda Seasons.
