Profile

Dactus is the largest-known continent of Dactyl, with the largest overall population. Located very east of Point Zero (the 'center' of Dactyl) and the lowest-positioned plate of all the continents (located 6 km below the nearby Newport Island, and 45 km below Point Zero), Dactyl is relatively difficult to reach from other high-population continents. However, it is considered the likely 'starting point' of all Earthian species 1,700 years ago; humans likely traveled through Newport Island to populate the other continents.

Dactus is 500 by 800 km across. An enormous portion of the continent is covered by the Lavender Dunes, a desert that is difficult to cross. To the south is the large Hushed Forest, a vast and ancient woods that have not yet been successfully navigated through. The north and northwest of the continent is covered by a mountain range, which are difficult to traverse but often the most practical trade route between the eastern and western population centers. Large swaths of the east and west are covered by fields and navigable woodlands, and Dactus is the lead producer of beef and mutton.

The soil covering Dactus is relatively thin, allowing people to step directly onto the world plate itself in various rimside locations.
