Overview
Mare 'Branflakes' Jones is the most chaotic catgirl pirate you'll ever meet. Sailing the seas on the Opps All Berries with her crew of 11 towed behind, Captain Branflakes is ready to face the world and whatever it throws at her.
With her feline habbits and concerning skills at sneaking around, she gets into a lot of trouble wherever she goes. Her crew can try all they want to keep a close eye on her, but once she's slipped away, good luck trying to find her.
Ye don' need a sword, yer face be deadlier, ye blasted blaggart. I'll kill ye right here!

Branflakes is a quirky character all around. Her ears and tail have a mind of their own, twitching and swaying as they please. She has a habit of being sneaky, even when there's little to no chance of danger. When she's not hiding under things, she's quite the bold captain, letting everyong know what she thinks.
Blunt and to the point, Branflakes holds no mercy when it comes to talking. Her sentences are littered with curse words, and she has a thick pirate accent. When it comes to certain emotions, she'd rather drink them away then talk about them, but she's willing to listen to anyone who needs an ear (or four).
Branflakes isn't the most physically affectionate person. She mostly shows love and appreciation through actions and the occational word or two. However, if you find yourself sleeping in the same tent as her, you might wake up to her curled up on your chest.

Mare Jones was the product of an affair between a common woman and a very rich and powerful tabaxi in Lokir. Known for it's horrible ruler, much of the population is low class or homeless. Living on Lokir is more surviving rather than living. Devil's Charm took over the region many years ago and put her second in command, Britton 'Grim Reaper' Rexx, in charge. She stripped the rights and liberties of almost everyone, forming a horrible power dynamic between citizens and rulers.
Branflakes's mother was in a miserable marriage. Finaciaol problems had broken the couple down and they heavily distanced themselves from one another. Her mother turned to drinking, and while out one night, she met a very handsome tabaxi who seemed equally interested in her. It was only supposed to be a quick one night stand, but she ended up pregnant with Branflakes. The tabaxi was not pleased, and told her to get rid of it as it could ruin his reputation.
Unable to bring herself to kill her child, she decided to carry it to full term and then hopefully find someone to take the baby. It was easy to hide the pregnancy from her husband as he was ofton on long work trips. Hiding it from her son at home was more difficult, but she managed. Finally, after many long months, Mare Jones was born, only to be immediately thrown onto the streets.
It's a miracle Branflakes didn't die within three days. Some local homeless had taken her in and helped raise her for a few years. The main part of surviving was fighting. All she could really do was scratch and bite since she was so small and weak. Stealing was another major part. You had to get food somewhere, and with no coin in your pocket, that was a tricky task. Thankfully her small form helped her a lot with that.
When Branflakes was about 6, she was digging through the trash as usual when she got her head stuck in a cereal box. Scampering around at the thought of how defenseless she was right now, she froze in her tracks when she felt two large hands grab the box and pull it off her head. Looking up, she saw a tall bulky pirate. He had a long white beard, a few faint scars, and dawned a blue captains coat. He introduced himself as Captain Crunch, and offered her to join his crew. Seeing this as a way of survival, Branflakes agreed.
Ship Life

Life on the ship was so much nicer than life on Lokir. Branflakes felt so free and loved. She was an instant hit with the crew who all fawned over how cute she looked. The Captain made her his first mate, much to the displeasure of the previous first mate who had now been replaced by a 6 year old. She was nicknamed Branflakes, and given the Captains last name as she was practically his daughter.
Branflakes fell in love with the ocean and it's endless possibilities. She spent her days running around the ship, pestering the crew, and getting up to no good. She witnessed a few battles over the years, but the crew was strong, and she felt very safe, something she wasn't used to feeling.
That didn't last forever though. When Branflakes was 21, the ship crossed paths with Devil's Charm, a vicious and cruel pirate who will stop at nothing to get what she wants. The fight began hard and fast. The whole crew fought hard, but a large portion of them were tragically killed. Branflakes heard struggling from across the ship and looked over to find Captain Crunch and Devil's Charm fighting. Before she could move, she saw him get knocked to the ground, and Devil's Charm slit his throat. She had the worst grin of victory on her face as she called her crew to leave. She had accomplished what she came to do.
Branflakes was put into position of Captain immediately. It was no question that she was next in line, but there was now a lot of things on her plate. She needed to repair the ship, rebuild the crew, hold many funerals, and so much more. All while trying to hold herself together after the loss of her Captain, the only person she considered a father. Dawning his coat over her shoulders, Branflakes went on to rebuild, now with a new plan. Kill Devil's Charm.
Modern day

Over the past five years, Branflakes rebuilt the ship (Oops All Berries, or O.A.B. for short), picked up new crew members, and coped with Crunch's death with a lot of drinking and crying.
One day, Branflakes was sailing through a coral reef that was in pretty rough shape. She then spotted someone in the water and ordered the ship to stop. Calling out to the man, he swam over and introduced himself. This was Levi, a sea elf who is looking to figure out why his home reef is dying. Branflakes offered to help him if he joined her crew and helped her hunt down Devil's charm. He agreed, and later on they started dating.
Just within the last two months, Branflakes and Levi did a routine stop at a Krayl for some supplies and a drink when a bar fight broke out. They fought alongside two strange individuals. One was a very tall green rabbit woman named Ysera. The other was a short human named Hayato. The two of them ended up being strung along as honorary members of the crew as Branflakes really gave them no choice. Now the party is adventuring around the globe, hoping to accomplish many things.

Skills & abilities
Sneak attack
Once per turn, you can deal an extra 2d6 damage to one creature you hit with an attack with a finesse or ranged weapon if you have advantage on the attack roll. You don’t need advantage on the attack roll if another enemy of the target is within 5 ft. of it, that enemy isn’t incapacitated, and you don’t have disadvantage on the attack roll.
Cat's Hearing
You have a climbing speed of 20 ft. and your claws are natural weapons that deal 1d4 + STR modifier damage, instead of the normal bludgeoning damage for an unarmed strike.

Branflakes met Levi about five years ago when passing through a coral reef. She had asked about any traces of suspicious boats and Levi said yes. She quickly dragged him aboard and their adventure began.
They grew close quite quickly, and Branflakes realized that she was actually attracted to him. Levi fortunately felt the same, and considering the danger a pirates life brings, they weren't concerned about the lifespan difference. Now days you'll mostly find Levi being crushed as Branflakes sleeps on his chest.
Captain Crunch picked up Branflakes when she was young and sailed with her around the globe. Branflakes never understood why he took her of all people, but maybe it was just her kitten eyes that saved her there.
She truly considered him her father, and his death cut her deep. Every year when his death date rolls around she drinks herself into a hole then cries herself to sleep. Much of the new crew don't know about him because she refuses to speak of that day.
The woman who destroyed Branflakes's life. Killer of her captain and awakening of her rage, Devil's Charm has messed up her life at every turn, targeted or not.
Branflakes will stop at nothing to hunt her down and slit her throat, just as she did to her beloved Captain. That day will come eventually.
Ysera is one interesting idividual. With a bad case of memory loss and an overall innocent view of the world, it's quite entertaining to travel with.
Branflakes is interested by Ysera's familiar, Carby. He has a large gem in his forhead that (unfortunately) can't be removed. Ysera has dumped Carby into her arms many times, and they've gotten used to each other, even though Carby's gem makes Branflakes's fingers twitch.
Hayato is quiet and generally unreadable. Usually muttering something about his homeland and hating goblins, and the occational complaint that 'Branflakes' is too hard to say.
Branflakes likes his eagerness for a good fight, although his confidence isn't always enough for most fights. It normally ends with Branflakes scrambling to protect him and Levi dragging his beaten bleeding body back to the cart for some rest.
