To strangers, Kotoha is extremely polite and very inquisitive. She's always seeking out interesting people and places, and chases after anything interesting she hears about. Kotoha appears to others as if she has an excess of energy, as she is always moving idly in some way or another.
With those she is closer with, Kotoha positively blossoms. While she's caring and helpful, she also has a tendency to tease her friends. In general, those who get used to Kotoha tend to describe her as cute and a little scatterbrained, as if she’s moving too fast for her mind to keep up.
While Kotoha is not particularly shy, she has a tendency to hang back when she meets new people. She is aware that her appearance can be slightly unsettling to some people, and she feels that this has cost her social relationships in the past. As a result, Kotoha does not fully invest herself in conversations until she feels that she has a good idea of whether the person is going to reject her or not.
story
Kotoha was born in the city of Kugane to a young couple, under the light of the full moon. Owing, perhaps, to her purple eyes, so bright against her hereditary dark sclera, the comment Kotoha’s parents often received was that she had stars in her eyes—she would always be striving for some kind of greater, lofty goal.
When Dalamud disappeared, it was as if the stars had all but consumed her. Her scales, once a matte off-white, began to sheen in an iridescent hue. Local apothecaries and chirurgeons could find nothing wrong with her, physically speaking. Despite the sudden change in appearance, she was perfectly healthy.
One day, as a teenager, Kotoha was running an errand in the shopping district. Here, upon a cloth blanket serving as a makeshift shop space, sat a foreigner from Eorzea in a beautiful gown. Kotoha was entranced by the spectacle—she loved how many unique people Kugane drew together. The woman took a single glance at Kotoha before insisting she allow her to divine her fate. Kotoha found herself captivated by the way the woman interpreted the movements of celestial bodies to read her future—Hingan astrology looked very different.
The woman told Kotoha that she had a grand future ahead of her, but warned her that her aether was unusual—it was as if it had fragmented into innumerable shards, and rearranged itself as best it could. Rather than be shocled, Kotoha took the news fairly well. After all, this was the first person to be able to give some sort of answer of what had happened to her as a child. She pressed the woman on details—how her craft worked, where she had learned it, if it was something Kotoha could also learn.
From that meeting, Kotoha felt she had little choice but to make the long journey to Coerthas. It took her several years to make all the necessary plans. From there, it took another many years to become an astrologian in her own right. Many things about the practice came naturally to her, as if the heavens themselves were guiding her towards success.
After a while, though, she realiced that she would not obtain any additional answers by remaining in Coerthas. This frustrated Kotoha, as she sometimes woke from her dreams feeling that she had just forgotten an important breakthrough. She set off for Gridania, figuring that taking the role of an adventurer would perhaps put her in a position to gather leads between odd jobs.
