Novus is a strange and mysterious figure that exists in my headworld. It’s not a common site and resides in the higher mountain tops of the region. He enjoys messing with hikers or those on religious expeditions up the mountain. He enjoys playing tricks on others, simple things like rustling leaves above their head, or mimicking the sounds of predators that reside in the area. More often than not it tends to set harmless traps at random or just simply approach menacingly to passersby.
Despite its reputation as a trickster, most tend to view it as a demi-god, seen as a demi-god of tricks and sent to the mortal realm after pulling a nasty trick on the head of the dynasty of gods. This is very false. But Novus loves the tales so he plays into it well. Although the truth is he can commune with the Gods, or at least used to, they used him as a means of communication years ago, using his mimicry skills to voice themselves, in trade for immortality, the highest of gifts the gods can give. Novus grew resentful of the gods and fearful, he had come to hate what they made him say and paranoia consumed its thoughts, for the gods could be watching whenever. So, with help from a close mage friend, it hid itself from the watchful eye of the gods atop its mountain.
Lonely at first he began to pick up artisan skills and deliver them to the towns that resided at the base of the mountain. Trading craft for essentials he was able to survive well and fine, but with changing generations with changing ideals that began to favor the gods Novus began to hhid from the new townsfolks. Now Novus is known as the demi-god of trickery, few knowing its true story and those who do seek help, often joining it in hiding from the gods.
- Dicentis is the name for the figures that work for/commune with the gods, many Dicentis visit Novus to escape the overwhelming voice of the gods, Novus always offers to let them stay for eternity but many decline, resulting in Novus wiping their memory and leaving them in the village below
- He is very clever and often steals in secret when bored, but he intentionally gets himself caught sometimes just for the fun of it (no one ever really catches it, it just lets them spot it and convey the terrifying encounter with the demi-god of tricks to the rest of town)
- Due to its mage friend living with him for a long while Novus learned magic, learning how to use plants and pre-made materials to make potions
- He is good friends with Funke, the current Dicentis, who often visits him and delivers him things for potions, she is incharge of keeping the Forest alive and well and Novus provides her with much needed relaxation time
- It’s often smiling or has a big expression of joy and exaggerates most expressions!
- It does not have any eyes or face under the “mask” and the symbols on the mask do not change
- He adores accessories and tends to collect jewelry and items of that sort, so drawing him with braided hair or decorating them in accessories (appropriate of course) are perfectly fine!
