Youkai/Yuuki

A tragic tale of what was once a terrifying demon, that is now unable to let go his humanity. There was a time where they terrorized the world, sucking out life whenever they went. Souls were theyr only energy source, and they were hungry about. But souls were what shaped them, slowly mutating to look and feel more human.

They joined human society, corrupted by the human curiosity. It wasn't easy to get used to the new life, nor they knew that theyr strenght and immortality was a product of the number of souls eaten. Growing close to humans changed them, forcing themselves to only eat dying souls, to accompany them in a painless death.

They eventually stopped eating souls, despite knowing that theyr lifespan would severely decrease. But, as a demon born from pure energy, there was no real death for them. They eventually ended up in the otherworld, with the choice of elevating themselves as shinigami, helping to keep order in the world of the dead, or reincarnating themselves after recovering all the energy they needed.

They soon discovered that being a shinigami was a lonely life. The otherworld is a massive place, where each one of them controls the natural flow of souls in theyr own way, helping them reset theyr memories before sending them back on Earth. But Yuuki wanted that too. Too spoiled for accepting that was her place, she prayed the Gods of giving her one last chance. A new life again with humans, without the horrible memories of theyr past, just one, normal life, before embracing her shinigami role for the rest of eternity.
