Leda Goldmane is a Ballorae Aelthen (elf)/Chimera(animal person) from Valgast who comes from a wealthy merchant family. Her family was always stifling, expecting her to follow in her older sister's footsteps of being high-achieving and well respected, along with being a good example for her younger brother. However, Leda would never be able to conform to these expectations as her personality often clashes with those in polite society.
Leda's quest to adulthood involved completing the Aelthen Rite to ignite her aelflame (a process called Kindling that allows aelthen to grow stronger) and completing a series of challenges that involved being crafty and steadfast. She took her name from a famed Khet pirate queen whose legends had reached Valgast.
Leda, initially clashed with one of her rite-siblings named Icarus, but eventually they grew to have an understanding of each other and developed a friendship that was also part rivalry for them. Eventually Icarus and Leda fell in love, but together brought out the worst parts in each other. This relationship did bring her parents pride in her finally, as Icarus was the daughter of the leader of their town and a respectable young warrior. Under the surface, she was involved with many sketchy things and got Leda involved with some less than trustworthy characters. It eventually boiled to a point where Leda broke off the relationship, but it was too late. She had some final obligations to fulfill and that led to her being set up by her ex to take the fall for a burglary job gone wrong. The homeowner, who they intended to be out that night, was home during the job and then was beaten badly by the thieves.
Leda arrived to the heist late and was caught "red handed" as she was attempting to help the man. She was unable to defend herself as she did have some stolen jewelry in one of her bags. The guards apprehended her and locked her away in the town jail.
She escaped that night and found her way out of the home she always knew, free to be whoever she would wish to be, but away from her family and younger brother that she adores, having tried for many years to protect him from her parent's expectations. She lives on with some minor fame due to the townsfolk generally being unaware of how she was able to escape, leading to it being a local legend.
Now her story is being formed in a ghost town full of bandits. She has adopted a very sad man, Atsuko, as her father and began making friendships in the town. Unfortunately her past has come back to haunt her as Icarus has also shown up in the town, as a part of the bandit leaders.
