One day, a few weeks after the bombing of the Summer Palace, he woke up in a hospital bed unable to see, his head felt like Darkstalker himself had split it in two. Later he was told that he was hit in the head by a dragonflame cactus which exploded in his face and he was lucky to be alive. He's now blind and partially deaf but he can kinda talk, though it hurts to try, so he stays silent most of the time.
