A living doll that is a well known doll-maker. Changes his face and features so frequently so as to remain anonymous, that he doesn't really have a true face anymore. Enjoys detailed face-ups. Occasionally busks on the streets with his violin to interact with strangers and entertain them. His dolls tend to show a fascination with medical themes and visualisations of mortality.
Personality
Enthusiastic and passionate with a drive to see people happy. Witty and quick with words, he is charismatic and charms strangers into sharing their passions and secrets very easily. He has a broad interest in all kinds of things, loving both practical and theoretical aspects. Celestin is very determined to avoid reconnecting with family or past life for fear of losing his freedom and the burden of his actions affecting them. He still misses them dearly and watches over them from afar. He is willing to drop anything to protect them should they be in danger but deflects and runs as much as he needs to in order to avoid recognition.

Story Summary
Celestin was a brother and a son in a small family. He grew up being 7 years older than his one sister, looking out for her, inspiring her love for books, and encouraging her to grow strong, rational and independent. He often gave her emotional support and advice as she often transitioned into phases of schooling just as he left it. He excelled academically and left an impression on his teachers throughout his schooling career. Besides academics, he had broad interests and was well on his way to becoming a renaissance man, cultivating skills in design, art, music, writing, and research. However, it was often attributed to distractedness. As his reputation picked up, many people encouraged him to become a physician as it was prestigious and 'suited' him. He pursued work abroad and worked tirelessly for many years without returning to his sister and parents due to commitments as a physiatrist at a very busy hospital. He undertook additional study and further research, and was actively involved in trying to improve practices for people of different backgrounds and the meaning of 'function' in the wider society. As a result, he grew more distant from his family trying to uphold the ideals they had instilled in him. He cared about each patient and enthusiastically worked with them with an optimism not many people in the field could maintain. He had been acquainted with Marcel as he frequently visited the Royal library to speak to the archivist, List, and access research materials.
But living alone with little time to check in with himself, he only picked up unusual changes to his body when he one day collapsed on his visit to the library. Marcel diagnosed him with a rare terminal disease but Celestin avoided contacting his family. He continued to work, and took on Chester as a new (and uncooperative) client at Marcel's request. Celestin learned of Marcel's unexpected familiarity with this disease and requested that he not be present to see the remaining stages. Nonetheless, Marcel secretly remained to aid him and his family.
Upon dying he found himself on the shores of an unknown river where people had gathered to be collected at a pier and sailed into the distance. There was immense congestion, which was attributed to the one man transport system, known as 'the Ferryman'. Out of curiosity he approached the Ferryman who, although looked sinister and scary, was only tired of their job and existence. Celestin spoke to them to get to know them and somehow woke up to a broken doll body which later became his sole connection to the living world.
He now makes dolls for a living and busks to entertain people on his own terms. He cannot completely leave off his past profession and has taken up creating prosthetics to still contribute to his previous work in his own way. The Ferryman assists, now having abandoned their post to do something new after centuries of the same old task, and Celestin shares his newfound anonymity sharing in the Ferryman's wide-eyed curiosity and wonder towards the world of human relationships and emotions. Character milestones: - Twins arrive to deliver new but are unable to communicate non-verbally with non-human being - Twins can't leave until they deliver news, so Celestin takes them in and takes up teaching/ learning sign language with them to communcate - To resolve: Live side by side with Edgar in world of the living (Edgar abandons shores forever? ), Edgar returns to the Shore alone, or Both return to the Shore - To resolve: Revealing his true identity to Vespera - how?
Confused and at a loss by the arrival of the silent twins, he and Edgar have taken to sheltering the odd siblings and trying to decipher their intentions.
