Gartertail is chatty and sociable, often the first to greet strangers or socialize with the other Clans at the borders. He's a good conversationalist, though he can get into rambling on about a topic he finds particularly interesting or invigorating. He does his best to take any of his social blunders with grace, and will make jokes at his own expense to lighten the mood or ease tension. He's hardworking and determined, and wants to make his Clan and his family proud. Being able to protect those around him is very important to him, due to a slew of issues that he grapples with. Guilt and fear prompt him to want to be strong, the strongest, so he can prevent tragedy from ever befalling his family again. "Strength" is not really a virtue his Clan strives for or respects, but patient and love didn't keep his mom from getting sick, they didn't keep her from slipping away. He almost resents the pacifistic ways of his Clan, and finds the thought of failing to protect his loved ones again to be impossible to stomach. While charming and typically very friendly and genuine, part of Gartertail's behavior acts as a way to keep expectations low, poking fun at himself or laughing off things to try to act like he's "in on the joke" – the joke usually being himself. He cringes away from compliments on his intelligence, and overworks himself trying to be better all the time.
