Profile

“I want to be a planet too!”

Pluto may be small, but he’s got a big heart. Ever since he was stripped of the title of planet, Pluto has been trying to get on the  “real” planets’ good sides. He greets everyone with a smile and a wave, and a hug if they ask for it. He spreads warmth so far from the Sun, giving kind words to his Kuiper belt neighbors. He treats everyone who crosses his orbit as a friend and an equal, rather than trying to control them. This is what disqualifies him from being a planet, apparently, but he’s not changing his ways. He thinks clearing the orbit is just a fancy way of saying you’re rude to everyone you cross paths with and want to remind them who’s boss. Pluto can be a people-pleaser, showering others with compliments without accepting any given to him, and performing favors for others while refusing help. He tries to be as selfless as possible, though his view of selflessness is never doing anything for yourself. No matter how much love and praise his moons shower him in, Pluto still feels lonely and unloved. He thinks he must have disappointed everyone. If he only behaved a little better, or was a little more useful, he’d still be a planet. Pluto is one of the few Kuiper belt objects who isn’t terrified of Neptune, and entered a resonance with him willingly. He believes his friendship with Neptune will bring him closer to the rest of the planets. Pluto views Charon as his equal, and more of a sibling than a child. The two always know how to cheer each other up, even if the happiness is fleeting. He hangs out with the other dwarf planets, Ceres less so, hoping they will join his cause of fighting for planetary status. Among them Eris is the least willing to support him, claiming he should just get over it. During one visit to Earth’s room he discovered dogs and now he’s obsessed with them. He loves Disney and horror stories, though he doesn’t understand the horror aesthetic that many of his moons have.

Pluto is left-handed, but can use his right hand for most tasks, just not as well. Pluto's main power is cooling off objects, but this power is much weaker than the equivalent power for Uranus and Neptune.

Physical Appearance

149 cm (4’11”) tall. Mesomorphic ectomorph, with slightly developed muscles. Round face. Medium tan skin tone. Round, dark brown eyes. Slightly upturned nose. Several prominent scars on his face and body, the most visible being near his right eye. These scars appear darker than the rest of his skin. Waist-length medium reddish brown, slightly wavy hair with a noticeable widow’s peak and bangs. Usually wears a light brown long-sleeve shirt with off-white faux fur on the sleeves, wrinkled dark brown pants, white snow boots with blue soles and laces, a medium reddish brown scarf, and gloves. One glove has a light brown palm and dark brown fingers, and the other has a dark brown palm and light brown fingers. Which color glove is on which hand depends on the season.

Design Notes

Pluto is shorter than all the planets, almost a full foot shorter than Mercury. He’s also shorter than seven moons, though Neptune’s moon Triton is only a few centimeters taller. He’s the tallest dwarf planet, less than a centimeter taller than Eris, so that’s something. He’s far skinnier than the terrestrial planets, yet not as skinny as the giant planets. While planets look like adults, dwarf planets resemble children, and Pluto is meant to look like a twelve-year-old boy. His skin, eye, and hair color are all based on the color of Pluto’s surface, which ranges from very light to very dark beige/brown. Pluto’s skin is the color of the lighter regions on the real object’s surface. His hair represents regions of intermediate brightness, and is long and wavy in reference to the comet-like (or maybe more similar to Venus’ atmosphere) “tail” of Pluto’s atmosphere, swept up by the solar wind without a magnetic field to protect it. Pluto’s scars, like the scars of almost all solid Celestials, represent craters. Pluto’s eyes are the dark brown color of the darker regions of the dwarf planet’s surface. His smooth shirt represents the smooth Sputnik Planitia, half of Tombaugh Regio. Tombaugh Regio is referenced more directly by the heart on the shirt’s pocket, as the feature is famous for its distinctive heart shape. The widow’s peak in Pluto’s hairline serves to make his face more heart-shaped, another reference to the “Heart”. His dark pants represent Cthulhu Macula, a prominent dark region. The shape of his pants pockets is based on the top of a cartoon whale, as Cthulhu Macula is vaguely whale-shaped. Far from the Sun and without a thick enough atmosphere for a jacket, Pluto must settle for other things to warm him, such as his scarf, boots, and the fur on his shirt. His boots are white and blue to represent the ice that composes Pluto’s surface, mostly nitrogen but with water ice mountains. Like Uranus, Pluto is tilted almost on its side, and like Uranus, Pluto wears different-colored gloves depending on the season. The glove rotation is less extreme, switching the hand with the light fingers and dark palm and the hand with dark fingers and light palm.

-His skin is tan! Don't draw it pale!

-His hair has a slight wave, a widow's peak, and bangs.

-Don't forget the scar near his right eye.

-The glove with light fingers and a dark palm can be on either hand and vice versa. Both gloves cannot be the same color, however.

-Don't forget his shirt pocket.
