PIRATE.
Not yet sure if she's the captain of her own ship, or like...an epic First Mate type. The one who's actually only second in command, but is the most reliable of the crew. She'd still be the main character of her story, no matter if she wasn't leader. Having the captain not be the protagonist could be an interesting route...I think I like the sound of it.
...Which means she needs a crew and captain. And I have to design a ship. Wuh oh.
