Profile

First for further background, Jacob and his two parents weren’t wealthy. They lived in a less fortunate section in a city but at least they were able to keep an apartment. Life was alright, but as aforementioned, he wanted a little brother or sister. When his mom got pregnant he was excited because his wish was gonna come true. Then the day of birth arrived, Aug. 18th. Jacob got to see his little brother for the first time. However in that same day, the taxi his father was in got into a crash for speeding, and died. The mother found out about that a few days later and was completely devastated. She sunk into a low point in which she didn’t feel like taking care of the new baby. The loss of the guy she loved so much completely changed her; she started to think that the new baby might have been a curse, so she neglected to take care of it. For escapism she slowly got into drug use. Jacob was noticing all this and became worried, for her, yeah, but mainly for Dallas. So he took on the responsibility of taking care of him all by himself.

Jacob was like the mother, father and older brother for Dallas. From his mothers stash of money hidden somewhere, he’d take a few bucks just to buy baby essentials. He’d go to the library to read up on parenting stuff. There were times where he had to stay home from school to take care of Dallas, and had to rely on his friend who would bring the notes and homework back for him to copy. He was stressed out a lot, but he liked to see Dallas grow up. He made sure to take pictures of the usual baby milestones and such. He thought Dallas was so adorable he started calling him “dallykins” (lol)

Jacob liked to teach Dallas a lot of different things once he got older. Although Dallas wasn’t the easiest person to teach, Jacob still had fun, and he was glad when Dallas was finally getting the material, no matter how long it took. As Dallas grew he became a more rebellious kid and it was harder for Jacob to look after him since he (dallas) keeps finding trouble somehow. But he kept a positive front even when he felt stressed beyond compare. Jacob had to push dallas to go to school sometimes; dallas didn’t like to go there but he would just to make Jacob happy. Out of the two jacob had more school smarts while dallas  had more street smarts. Eventually it was graduation for Jacob and with his really good grades and lots of work scholarship hunting and looking for free money he managed to get into the college he wanted and not spend a ton of money on it. He was really happy, but it was in another state; in New York City. He’ll be dorming ,so he couldn’t bring Dallas with him, and this worried him. Jacob’s friend, who doesn’t have any major after school plans offered to take care of Dallas for him and this relieved him a bit. So in the end Dallas went to go live with jacob's friend and Jacob promised to return every time he had a break, which he did, and everytime he went back, dallas kept getting older and Jacob felt a little sad that he couldn’t be there for him 24/7 and he thought he was missing out on things.

Jacob had a great four years of college life for he kept up his grades despite the stress and lack of sleep at times, and even got a girlfriend.  He was planning to move into an relatively cheap apartment after graduation so he could bring Dallas up to the new city and take care of him there, and hoping that his girlfriend would come live with him too.  It would be like a happy family with the three of them. However this didn't get a chance to happen . Days after graduation Jacob and his girlfriend  went back to his friends home but instead of getting to see happy faces for his return he was faced with a worried friend saying that he couldn't find Dallas anywhere. Jacob was shocked  but didn’t want to believe it. The three of them looked all over the friend’s house (even though the friend said he already checked the common areas dallas goes to) but couldn’t find him. Then they went all over their small town to see if they could find him; they even asked a couple policemen from the nearby precinct to help look for him, but hours had passed and it was dark and they didn’t find Dallas so they had to go back to the friends’ house.

Jacob felt empty as he went into the living room and sat down on the couch. He couldn’t believe that Dallas was missing. His friend told him that he only went out for a few minutes to run down the the deli on the corner to get some milk and snacks and when he got back his place was empty. He says he feels so sorry, and he didn’t think anything would happen. He doesn’t know if dallas left or got kidnapped or something, but nothing seemed to be out of place. His friend then went into his room to change into house clothes but then he found two folded up slips of paper in one of the drawers, one with his own name and the other with Jacob’s and the friend ran out to show them to Jacob. When jacob opened his he couldn’t believe what was written. It was a note from Dallas saying he was fed up with living in such a poor town and hated how people picked on him and hated how he wasn’t smart enough to understand anything, and how he wasn’t actually going to school but instead just hanging in different areas in town, sometimes finding some trouble but he’d say he was strong enough to defend himself. Dallas wrote that he was rly sorry that he wasn’t there for Jacob to see him but he had to go, or else he might go insane staying in such a place. He had run away and has no destination in mind but anywhere else is better than this place.  In the end he wrote for Jacob to never forget about him and hope that they see each other again in a better place and that he’ll always love him.

Jacob froze, reading the last part. The note fell out of his hand  and he struggled to collect his thoughts on what just happened. If he felt empty before now he felt like a dark void. The person he cared for the most in his life had left and he doesn’t know where he is, he might never see him again for all he knew. This realization crushed him like a ton of bricks and he started to shake slightly. His friend and his girlfriend both wrapped their arms around Jacob and tried to comfort him but it didn’t help. Something inside Jacob broke and he ended up sobbing on his friend. He cried for what felt like a really long time, and even after he calmed down a bit tears soaked his face as he lifelessly went into the spare room Dallas used and flopped down on the bed and fell asleep from exhaustion.

He hasn’t been completely the same after that day. His face had more or a tired or somber look to it, and he doesn’t feel as excited as he used to. He felt more gloomy and didn’t feel like doing anything. Other times he’d drown himself in his studies; after college he went to med school to become a pediatrician (for this he and his girlfriend moved into a new york apartment). There were days where he’d study endlessly to get his mind off things, and then there were times where he couldn’t focus on anything at all. This caused him to lose a lot of sleep at times and sometimes he would get headaches. However he didn't want to lose time from school or look completely lifeless. But there were times where he’d stare off into space or lie on his bed or something and just thought about his brother and hoped he was okay. He kept thinking he should have come home earlier, or that he should have found an apartment earlier so he could have dallas with him much sooner so none of this would have happened. He wondered what really was going on with dallas at that school or what he was thinking, if he felt lonely since he (jacob) wasn’t there for him 24/7. Sometimes he thought about what would happen if he didn’t go so far away for schooling. He’d feel so sad sometimes that he’d cry. He missed Dallas so much. His girlfriend stayed by his side whenever she could and did her best to support and comfort him, but after fully noticing how off Jacob seemed she told him to see a doctor or someone he could talk to. He didn’t want to at first but she kept insisting that he should so he went to one eventually. After speaking to one he was diagnosed with depression and this kinda freaked him out but he realized that it was true. Sometimes he didn’t know what to do, but he did his best to keep his girlfriend by his side more often instead of isolating himself. After his first year of med school he decided to propose to his girlfriend, which she accepted, and they married. They next year their first kid was born.

Eventually he finished his four years of med school and went on to do another few years under an actual pediatric. It took many hours out of the week and he didn’t get to see his family so often but he knew all this work would pay off in the end. During these years they had another kid. Jacob did his best to take care of them, but deep down he remembered the days where he took care of Dallas in a similar way and at times this made him sad, but he didn’t want these feeling to get in the way of his own kids.But he can't help but onder why isn't experiencing that same feelingof taking care of Dallas with his own kids. it's justnot the same... ;;
