Design Notes

  • Built like a draft cross: tall, sturdy, and broad. Good conformation.
  • Grullo dun with some white, a lion's tail, and very pale arctic blue eyes.
  • His eyes do have pupils, the lack of them is just a stylistic choice.
  • Littered with scars; when his fur is thinnest in the summer, they show his skin color beneath.
  • Often wears various furs and painted patterns, which change frequently.
Personality

With the shedding of his pelts go the final vestiges of civilization. A being untamed, a creature of instinct and heart, Aeskir is made of ancient things. Prideful, honest, and earthy, the world that surrounds him is shaped to his liking as easily as it shapes his own self. He is stubborn and unyielding, even to the forces of nature: there is no storm that will drive him from his home, either he dies at its front or its bluster fades at the strength of his steadiness. Judging by his weather-beaten yet continued existence, it is far too easy to declare Aeskir the victor.

To say as such denies his scars. There is of course no sense in underestimating the tenacity of nature. He is far too clever to fall to such traps. He is forthright, unafraid, yet interacts with the world with a respect and understanding that few can match. His kindness to creatures of the wilderness is at odds with his harshness to those of his standing. Brash and blunt, Aeskir doesn't hold back what he thinks or feels, regardless of where such things might leave him.

It isn't cruelty that drives him, but a desire for raw truth and honesty so strong that he impresses it upon any who come in contact with him. He craves the loyalty that he so easily offers, wishing nothing more than closeness from others. His aloofness is little more than an age-weathered shield, something he allows himself to lower with only those he trusts deeply. This, of course, is rare on the best of days. Lonely and stubborn, with an unrestrained tongue, Aeskir doesn't seem to make as many friends as he desires. (282 words)

Magic: Temporal Manipulation

  • Aeskir's magic, simply put, is a moderate control over time– like a hold on an hourglass, tipping to still or sway the flow of seconds, he can control the area around him with some precision. He can hold objects as they are, frozen in time; accelarate or slow the healing of wounds; in some cases, reverse the passage of time.
  • His lack of discipline often makes this a gamble. Though it rarely malfunctions, and almost always succeeds in his goals due to his powers, any mistakes tend towards tragic mistakes. It's one of the many reasons he uses his magic sparingly.
  • Magic use fatigues the caster. The size of the object and the duration of his affect on it both affect the extent of this. Changing years takes far more energy than changing seconds, and larger or more complicated objects also require more from him.
History

The fourth son to a family of fishers, Aeskir was hardly a creature of note in his younger moons. It was this livelihood that inspired his honesty, his fierce truth and his love of nature. It was also this that ruined the man that he could have been. Aeskir was still in his youth when he lost all that he knew– bloody-mouthed and bruised, dour and petulant as he awaited his family's return from their venture, he was instead met with the cracking of his foundation: the storm that had hovered on the horizon for days had swooped in at once. He lost everything in the span of moments.

Still too young to care for himself at the time, he was entrusted to the care of a nearby family. Smaller, yet no better off than he was accustomed to, he spent the rest of his childhood in sullen work, wth misplaced grief fraying any tentative kindness offered to him by those that raised him now. It wasn't long before his irritation with life as he knew it led him back to familiar habits. The very thing that had kept him from the boat the day his life changed, Aeskir picked fights wherever he went. A thief and a liar, but as quick with violence as he was his eye.

With time he built up his life, gained the control of his life he had craved for so long. But frustration knew no such easy ending. Aeskir's history would not be so neatly tied. It was as a tired outcast that he found himself at the fringes of his present, magic taught only by his own trials and life lived only for himself. There is a future still before him, and in these years he has left, Aeskir is truly eager to see it through. (304 words)
