S'ren is a dragonrider, who feels he owes his life to Iikka because Iikka saved him from death by starvation and exposure when they were children. His loyalties lie with only Iikka and his dragon, not the Weyr or anyone else in it, and he makes this quite clear in his actions. He is generally abrasive and mercenary, and has little patience for altruistic gestures if he thinks they'll end up bringing trouble. Extremely strong mind in general, but especially for tactical considerations.

Has a strong distaste for Holds and those from the holds due to his past.

Looks several years younger than he actually is, which tends to lead to weird looks when he's with Iikka (despite Soren actually being the elder of the two...).

(cw: mentions of emotional/physical child abuse)
Is the bastard son of a Lord Holder infamous for warmongering; he's aware of this but has denied it when questioned (usually to the tune of "are you stupid? do I look old enough to be his son?"). Was ordered to be left for dead as an infant, due to the unusual birthmarks on his forehead and forearms that his father believed to be the sign of a curse. The woman who was given the order instead decided to raise him (with no small amount of resentment) until he was about five, at which point he was sold to an old harper to act as labor for things the old man could no longer do. He learned to read and write from the harper, but could not speak until long after he was in a safe situation; neither the old man or the woman treated him well.

A few years later, the old man died and S'ren was left to fend for himself. The cothold rejected him (as they knew where he came from), so he was forced to leave in order to find any sort of food. Iikka found him collapsed, starved, and delirious, and (with the help of his father) nursed Soren back to something resembling health. He spent most of the next few years basically being raised by the small group Gr'eil had gathered under his wing, and only left when Searched because Iikka came with him. The shift was stressful for him, and brought out a lot of his worst traits; he developed a reputation for being actively unpleasant among most of the other candidates, particularly when it came to defending Iikka whenever Iikka unknowingly stepped on a social land mine. When the hatching actually happened, nobody but Iikka (including S'ren himself) expected him to Impress. But he did.

He especially didn't expect an imperious little Jasper to hop her way over to him, grab his robes, and scold him about sulking on the Sands with eyes full of rainbow.

Things got a bit... chaotic from there. S'ren had not actually planned for the possibility of Impression, and while Iikka had expected it he was never great at planning. Beyoarth was still a baby and needed all the care that came with that, which meant that S'ren did not really have the energy to assist with planning most of the time.
