Vrutha was born in a tribe of orcs that are located deep in the snowy mountains. This tribe in particular is notorious for their barbarism and cruel practices, valuing warriorhood over other social functions and solving most interpersonal issues with some form of duel or violent punishment. All of the scars that litter Vrutha's body came from one or both. This tribe, because of their isolated location, only speaks Orcish to one another, so Vrutha knows very little Common. Vrutha was well known among his peers for his combat prowess, but after losing a battle that left him gutted and bleeding to death in the snow, he lost his place in society. He was ready to accept his fate and perish—however, he was discovered by a wandering dragon, who rescued him and carted him off into the forest to rehabilitate him. This dragon befriended him and also taught him much about medicine and foraging. This act of senseless kindness changed Vrutha's perspective on others, allowing him to realize that not everyone needs to be fought, and not everyone means to do harm. After healing fully, Vrutha never returned to the mountains; instead, he lives out his days in solitude in the woods, teaching himself more about things outside of his culture's realm of understanding, and enjoying a much more peaceful life.
Then, he discovers Zavan in the same woods, dying and in need of assistance. After what he's been through, his decision to help is immediate; and then, they become a pair of unlikely traveling partners.
