Relationships
- Relationship with Saturn: Rhea's mother. Of her two parents, Saturn is the one she gets along with the best. While they're still prone to butting heads, Saturn is the peacemaker in the family, the one willing to let a subject drop to avoid a fight. He's often the one trying to soothe the tension between Rhea and Cyrus, the middle man trying to suggest a compromise when both of them are too stubborn to come up with something between them.
When it comes to just Rhea and Saturn on their own though, they tend to get along fairly well. If Rhea ever wants advice or comfort from one of her parents, Saturn is the one she goes to without fail. Even as a baby, it was hit or miss if she would get fussy when Cyrus would hold her, but with Saturn, she almost always would immediatly calm down. A mama's girl to contrast Solaris' daddy's boy. They also have a healthy degree of competition between them, since between his two children, Rhea was the one who picked up Saturn's gaming habit. Whether it's against each other or on the same team, the two enjoying playing together, even if Saturn finds some of the newer video games Rhea get's into a bit much.
- Relationship with Cyrus: Rhea's father. While Rhea does love her father, it's very common for her and Cyrus to clash. Both of them are too stubborn, and while their fights never get to even the point of raised voices, there is often a layer of tension whenever they interact. Arguing back and forth in calm voices, so to an outsider, it might seem like they're just exchanging viewpoints on a topic, but to people in the know, it's obvious that they're arguing.
Rhea's main issue with Cyrus is she has a hard time understanding his viewpoint on things. To her, he seems rigid and uncompromising, telling her what to do and expecting her to do it just because he's her father. Even when he explains his reasoning, his coldness rubs her the wrong way. She'll just go to Saturn instead if she wants something, since he's the warm one. The one who will coddle her. Rhea also has just enough of a troublemaker streak in her that she also clashes with Cyrus due to how strict he is about following rules and expectations. Saturn might overlook things, but Cryus 100% will not. He expects better of her and when she does break the rules, there will be consequences. It actually causes a bit of tension between her parents, since each want to handle her troublemaking in different ways. - Relationship with Solaris: Rhea's older brother. Rhea has a fairly good relationship with her brother. Due to the fact he's about 6 years older than her, they weren't super close as children, but they do get along. In some sense, Rhea is the one bossing her brother around while he just caters to her whims, seeing no issue indulging her. Even when she's a toddler, if Rhea wanted something from him, he tended to just go along with it.
- Relationship with Juri: Rhea's main rival and kinda sorta frenemy (if you were to ask Juri though, you'd drop the enemy part of that term). Their rivalry starts after Rhea insisted she was going to avenge her parent’s defeat by taking down the daughter of the man who defeated them both (although she says she’s only avenging Saturn, as Cyrus can piss off in her mind. Maybe. Okay Cyrus can have a little avenging too but don't tell him she said that). This despite the fact the two families are amicable and will even occasionally collaborate to help the region.
Juri takes to the challenge without missing a beat, and the two end up with a friendly, albeit sometimes ridiculous, rivalry. Rhea taking the whole thing much more seriously than Juri does. Rhea also might or might not have a bit of a developing crush on her rival, but is too hardheaded to acknowledge her evolving feelings.
Personality
Trivia
- - A large part of Rhea’s character is she's the baby Cyrus is actually around from the beginning for. A second chance to experience the first stages of a child’s life that he missed with Solaris. Thus, Saturn tries to get him involved as much as possible, one of these ways being that he suggests Cyrus be the one to name the baby. Cyrus doesn't exactly want to name the kid though, so he basically just does the same thing Saturn did with Solaris' name. He names her Rhea after one of the moons of Saturn, since she's her mother’s child. It matches the theme of her brother’s name and he figures Saturn will appreciate the intended meaning.
- - Rhea inherited Saturn's odd hair quirk of having tuffs of hair that grow in a way that resembles cat ears. Rather than trying to tame her hair, she embraces the look, playing up the catgirl angle at times. She's the type to say "nyan" and do the little paw motion pose unironically.
- - In initial drafts, Saturn and Cyrus only had the one child, Solaris. This was based mostly on the fact Cyrus wouldn't want children in general, so any children he does have would have to be accidents. After Saturn ends up pregnant with Solaris, Cyrus gets a vasectomy to ensure no more accidents would happen, as he was that against the idea of having children. As I develeoped his and Saturn's relationship more though, I decided to drop that angle and give them another child. Since Cyrus missed out on Solaris' early years, he gets a second chance with Rhea. A chance to experience both a pregnant Saturn as well as what it's like to care for an infant/toddler.
- - Related to the above, there was also a time Rhea was Archer's daughter, as I had decided to add her before I dropped the vasectomy idea with Cyrus. In this version of events, Rhea would have been concieved during the time period Archer visits Galactic Inc in Sinnoh, hoping to builds business ties between their groups. Archer and Saturn would have hit things off enough during this time period that Rhea would have been conceived, but as I still wanted to endgame Cyrus/Saturn, it would have caused even more drama in an already difficult relationship. It was too much of a potential breaking point for them, so I discarded the idea.
