Sprucefrost’s anxiety often causes her struggles when dealing with her daily tasks She can function normally throughout the day for the most part, though she tends to have trouble sleeping more often than not. She often pulls herself away from social situations, as they tend to make her anxiety worse - especially for large groups. When she’s being spoken to, sometimes she can struggle to concentrate on what they are saying. When Sprucepaw was an apprentice, she struggled to concentrate and stay focused on the tasks her mentor had set out for her to do. Now that she's a warrior, she's figured out how to better concentrate on her tasks and social situations, and is doing better to cope with her anxiety using the method below. Unless someone specifically approaches her by coming towards her from the way she’s facing, she will be easily startled - even if they’ve announced their presence sometimes. Most of the time, her anxiety is mild enough for her to function normally. But when she has a bad day, she struggles to calm herself down enough to function again by herself. While she's a young kit, she'll struggle to figure out how to cope with her anxiety aside from hiding in the nursery when things get too severe. However, as she grows older, she’ll figure out and use coping strategies such as the 5-4-3-2-1 technique. However, there will be some days when her anxiety is so severe that she will hardly be able to do the simplest daily tasks.

She’ll try her hardest to hide her anxiety from everyone, especially her parents. Her anxiety will often cause her to struggle to fall asleep or to stay asleep, always worrying about her family members, her clan and her own path in life.

    Born alongside 5 littermates to Hemlockfang and Peachfur of EmberClan, Sprucekit had a lot to handle from the very moment she opened her eyes. As the edlest of the litter, she automatically had a lot expected of her. Hemlockfang and Peachfur weren't doting parents, and they weren't allowed to call them anything but their names. Sometimes Sprucekit would find herself looking towards the other kits in the nursery and their parents - wondering what it was like to have parents that were that doting and caring... But she had to push those feelings down. She had to be the proper daughter that her parents expected her to be, and set an example for her younger siblings. There are times when she feels alienated from her own family- Poplarkit being a bit more chaotic than her other littermates, Hazelkit didn't really seem to care one way or the other about getting affection from their parents, Tangerinekit was the golden child and doted on the most, Willowkit cause he always tried to make Hemlockfang proud, and Apricotkit always seemed to try to get their parents' attention and praise. Sprucekit, she... didn't really care about all that. Sure she was the eldest of the 6 of them, but that didn't mean she was always automatically better than her siblings.

Sometimes, being the eldest of her litter was harder than it should have been. Sprucekit learned from an early age to hide her true thoughts and feelings - they were too dangerous to risk her siblings catching wind of. As such, it often appears like she doesn't care about a lot of things - when in reality she does. She just doesn't know how to show it without risking her family's honor. Around their 2 moon mark, her mom started acting... weird. Peachfur started to try to give them love, and the option was weird to the eldest. She wasn't sure how to feel about her mother's newfound affections for them. Sometimes she'd be receptive to it, but other times she'd shy away from it, finding it too weird and odd for her to be able to stand. It didn't escape her notice that Peachfur tried to get Hemlockfang to do the same thing to the six of them, but it seemed to cause a bit of strain between her parents. Were they the cause of all this? Her and her littermates? She didn't know how her parents had been before they came into this world, but she could see the sort of stress that they seemed to be causing her parents' mateship...

Before she could really begin to process everything, her father suddenly died of starvation. No one had really noticed... his fluffy pelt had masked the signs of his starvation the entire time. He'd upheld the warrior code, making sure the queens and kits had food to eat before he did. She noticed Apricotkit pulling away from them more and more, and Hazelkit seeming more confused by the situation than before. As for Sprucekit herself? She didn't know what to feel. On one paw, he was her father. But on the other... he'd not really been there for them and shown them any affection? She was torn, and didn't know how to deal with these feelings at all. Thankfully, their 6th moon rolled around quickly, and she could finally get some space from her littermates. Maybe that would make things better...

apprenticeship [ 6 - 12 moons ] >
    Her and her littermates were all named apprentices. She got the name Sprucepaw, and was assigned to Cedarsong. The molly was... interesting. She was definitely different than Sprucepaw's family, and the young apprentice wasn't sure how to deal with the situation. The tortie is rather cheerful, and much more outgoing than she is, and she's not sure how to handle Cedarsong's energy - it being so different than hers and such. The two ended up getting along okay for the most part, but as she went on with her apprenticeship she started to become more of a loner than even in her kithood. She didn't really talk to anyone, but started to spend some time with Skipperpaw who was a moon younger than she was. For whatever reason, Sprucepaw felt drawn to the tortoiseshell. Skipperpaw didn't demand things of her, didn't try to drag her into things... It was nice. Her sister Apricotpaw managed to get herself into trouble, getting her leg stuck in a twoleg trap. It delayed Apricotpaw's training, since she had to be kept in the medicine cat's den for awhile to heal up enough to return to her training. Sprucepaw wasn't sure if she felt worried for her sister, or grateful that she wasn't able to train with her for a short period of time..

It was somewhere in the middle of her training that her littermate Willowpaw went missing. She didn't really notice until someone told her when Willowpaw didn't return to camp. Sprucepaw had no idea why he'd left, or where he'd gone. They hadn't found a body, so Willowpaw had to still be alive... right? Worrying over the disappearance made her anxiety flare up really badly for a few days, and her coping methods could barely calm her down. In the middle of the night one evening a flood appeared in camp. Many EmberClan cats died in the flood - including their own leader Reedstar. Piketongue who had been deputy for a short time stepped up to become leader due to the loss. During the full moon a gathering took place that revealed the state of every clan and their hardships. It seemed that something bigger was happening here and the visions many cats were receiving might play a part in it. The gathering ended with a new goal to investigate and a quest to find the answers. Sprucepaw avoided her littermates best she could, not really wanting to be around them too much...

However, tragedy would once again strike the clan when a coyote visited and struck a deadly blow to Peachfur as she was fighting it off. In her last moments Peachfur had apparently spoken words of apology and regret and love, and it confused Sprucepaw when she got the message from her sister Hazelpaw. While they were kits her parents didn't show them love much at all - if at all. And then Hemlockfang died, and Peachfur completely turned her attitude around. It had given Sprucepaw a bit of whiplash with all that had happened... Did her mother truly care about them...? Or was she just saying that in her last moments? Sprucepaw found herself seeking comfort from Skipperpaw more and more, and almost relying on the slightly younger molly for comfort when things got bad for her.

Eventually the flood that had chased them from their home cleared out, and she was able to receive her warrior name alongside her littermates back in EmberClan's camp.

    Being named a warrior wasn't really that exciting for Sprucepaw - it was more filled with anxiety than excitement. She'd have to be with her siblings (excluding Apricotpaw and Willowpaw) in front of the whole clan for the first time since they'd all been made apprentices... She wasn't sure how to feel about it.

The same day she was given her warrior name of Sprucefrost the cats chosen to go on the quest left camp. Sprucefrost hated to see Skipperpaw walking away with the rest of the cats... Who would she turn to when things got bad now? Her anchor and her rock was gone - and she had no idea if she'd ever see the tortie again. Right after the quest cats left, a massive earthquake shook the territories. Many cats were killed, and others injured. How would things ever be the same again? She had no one to turn to... She was on her own now...
