History
Earliest YearsAzra comes from a well-off family of Tomran dignitaries. Their great-grandfather had become a notable adventurer in his youth, gaining status for his family for generations to come. Azra was the last in their family since their great-grandfather to have shown great magical potential, and as soon as they were old enough to attend, Azra was enrolled in the Academy of Magic in Whitemont to hone their skills further.
They aspired to become someone of great importance, to become an adventurer who did amazing things just like their great-grandfather had done. Their parents, however, hoped Azra would follow in their own footsteps and put their skills to use in other, safer ways. To try and encourage Azra, they would commonly bring Azra along with them for diplomatic assignments both within as well as outside of Tomra. It was when they were returning home from abroad on one of these assignments that Azra and their family found themselves unable to reenter Tomra; a strange magical barrier had been put in place during their absence, locking them out of their homeland and keeping the rest of their family from leaving. They were displaced, suddenly without a home.
DisplacedIt was difficult to adjust to this sudden change in lifestyle. Money very quickly became an issue, as they were so used to living well without worrying about such things. Their parents did their best to maintain normality despite their frantic struggle to adjust. Azra was purely frustrated that they weren't going home and was unaware of the reality of the situation.
Because Azra could no longer attend the Academy, their parents paid a tutor with what extra money they could spare in order to continue their education. Although they managed to do this for a while, Azra's parents eventually couldn't continue paying their tutor and once again their education came to a sudden and immediate halt. Azra was informed that if they wanted to continue to further their education, Azra would need to support themself from that point forward without any further assistance from their parents. Their parents could no longer take care of Azra. They were officially on their own.
IndependenceAzra struggled. Most of what they've learned had been in things of a magical nature, but they just didn't have enough of an education to get any work in anything pertaining to that much to their chagrin. Everything else they tried they could never stay with for long before they were either let go, or they gave up.
They were finally realizing just how far their family had fallen. Although they pretended things were okay, just as their parents had for years, it was impossible to truly believe that. Eventually, fed up with failure after failure, Azra decided to apply to an adventurers guild. They saw it as an opportunity to go down the path they had wanted for years and gain some real experience, and although the pay wasn't always the best, it was better than nothing at all. They can only hope that through their own abilities that they can make their family proud.
