PERSONALITY

PERSONALITY:

-Vain, flighty, lazy, cowardly

+/- Social, dedicated, pathetic, conflict avoidant

+ Affable, intelligent, kind, creative

Violet is an affable and social persona. Though at first glance he might seem refined, as soon as he opens his mouth it’s clear he’s a bit pathetic… but in an endearing way, his sympathetic charm and intellect often making up for his bumbling and miscalculations. He has a tendency to find himself in situations he just stumbled into head first and then has to somehow fix, but so far he hasn’t found one he couldn’t talk his way out of. This is helped by Violet being able to talk in circles around people and being pretty conflict avoidant, always rather de-escalating than escalating situations.

Although lazy when it comes to anything that doesn’t pique his interest, Violet is knowledgeable and dedicated to anything that does, having a passion for research and retaining knowledge like an encyclopedia. He’s also pretty innovative and creative, thinking outside the box, at least when it’s a problem he actually cares about solving.

Still, Violet is terribly vain and pampered, and he can be a bit flighty when it comes to long-term commitments. He's a cowardly, self-indulgent, self-serving and self-centered person on the outside, even if in reality he’s very kind when push comes to shove… but without that push, he’s often stuck in his comfort zone.

LIKES: Books, pokemon, good wines, hearing tales from faraway places.

DISLIKES: Chores, waking up early, rainy weather, spicy foods

HISTORY

Violet comes from a well-off family… or, well, a family that came into wealth, that is. Though the Farrowbows come from unfortunate and poor beginnings, Lumiose Village truly was a new start for their family. Originally traveling vendors from the Lurantis clan, the Farrowbows were in the business of making dyes and working with inks from the coastline, but on one of their travels their livelihood was destroyed in a fire caused by a wild pokemon, and young Violet survived the experience only barely.

This incident forced the family to find shelter in the nearby Lumiose village, which turned out to be a blessing in disguise. With writing becoming more common and in demand in the growing village, the local writers were in need of someone with knowhow in inks and coloring techniques. After some monetary help from a local knight called Drakma Dragavei who had vested interest in their services thanks to his own work as a scribe, the Farrowbows were able to re-establish themselves, making a good fortune in selling writing equipment and eventually offering a scribing service of their own.

And thus, despite having such a close call as a child, Violet grew up living a safe and secure life in the Lumiose village. He was tutored by the best of scribes and taught reading, writing, bookkeeping and the family trade of ink and dye making. His parents loved him well and kept him safe, but the sheltered and wealthy upbringing was also a painfully stifling one. Day in and day out Violet would see the village grow and people come in to become knights, regaling people with their tales and ready to prove their worth as heroes of the people!

A burning intrigue was set alight in Violet, a desire to see the world beyond the confines of the village. But even voicing this desire out loud was like cursing in front of his parents. After all, hadn’t he almost died as a child in a pokemon attack? Not only that, but he had a family business to inherit! And Violet, of course, didn’t dare stand against his parents.

But the mystery of his burn scars and the hazy memories surrounding his childhood and the accident that almost took his life was like honey to flies, and Violet couldn’t help but be drawn to pokemon despite the warnings.

On the day he turned 25, Violet came to find a small and hurt little rowlet in the backyard of their estate. In secrecy he started to care for it. Dubbing the feisty little thing Purple, Violet documented the pokemon and its behavior, sneaking out from the house to feed it and attempt to take care of its wounds. He dutifully wrote down what it ate, when it slept, what it disliked, how he took care of its wounds and how the little thing improved with his care. He grew very fond of the little owl, and though he knew it was forbidden for him to catch his own pokemon, Violet decided to keep it in secrecy.

Of course, it didn’t remain a secret too long, and when found out, his parents were all but demanding Violet give up the thing, throwing around threats and accusations about making minced meat out of the dangerous beast, so help them Yveltal!

However, this was the point when Violet had enough. He ran away from home and joined the corviknights, begging for them to let him join and keep the little rowlet. Though at first he was met with heavy resistance because of disobeying common (and important) rules, it was noted that he had taken genuinely good care of the pokemon, and Purple seemed to have bonded with him well. He was eventually allowed to join and start training despite the initial reservations.

This was five years ago. Even if Violet managed to go from hatchling into a rookie, catching his other two pokemons, Plum the wooper and and Fig the farfetch’d unceremoniously at a pond near the village, he hasn’t made any progress in the last few years. Despite the encouragement from older knights and all the training, Violet hasn’t moved past rookie stage, and seems more concerned with documenting his and other people’s pokemons than improving. Not that that’s bad, necessarily, but he does keep sighing and complaining about how he wants to be a knight.. but with his cowardly and hesitating attitude, that’s still ways away.
