Surprisingly, he can endure a lot of pain, which serves well when in tough battles against stronger demons.

About

Hotaru is extremely kind and patient, he rarely ever gets mad at anyone. Some believe it’s impossible to rile him up but no one has really dared to try. Despite his calm demeanor, he is also a little bit playful and would go off on an adventure with a friend if they asked. He’s an enabler of trouble at times, especially for the young ones, as he finds no harm in having some fun. It’s what the kids deserve! But, he acts as the voice of reason in most situations. He gives good advice to those who ask and is a big brother figure to many of the young slayers around him. Very supportive of what you do with your life.

Hotaru loves to chat and would absentmindedly ramble about his thoughts to whoever just happens to be near him. He doesn't mind if they don't want to participate in his rambles, but he appreciates if anyone listens. He's also the type of person to reach out to anyone who's shy or seems unfriendly to try and befriend them. He's a little bit stubborn and will do whatever he can to hang out with them. He loves sharing knowledge he's learned as well and gets a little bit excited when finding out new things.

History

Grew up in a superstitious family that had their lives revolve around jewels and crystals. They all lived up in the mountains where they could get easy access to those gems. They performed crystal healing and other gemstone treatments. They were also demon slayers behind the curtains who learnt the Breath of Crystal technique, having it passed down from previous generations. The original creator of the Crystal breath hoped that by creating this technique it’d help protect their family for years to come. Not everyone in that family became slayers though, only those who truly mastered the forms. The rest continued on the legacy of working with crystals - they collected them and sold them, as well as offering their treatments to whomever was interested.

His hair and eyes are the way it is because his mother believed that a strong slayer would be born if she consumed one small gemstone every month during her pregnancy. He trained at a young age, around 12 years old up until he was 16. He then joined the final selection and passed easily to no ones surprise. Afterwards, he continued to train under the Crystal Hashira at the time who was his grandfather, as Hotaru was his tsuguko. When his grandfather passed away, Hotaru had killed a significant amount of demons, almost reaching 50. However, since there was now a vacant spot as a hashira he inherited the title and is now the current Crystal Hashira. This happened when he was 18 years old. Fast forward to 4 years later, Hotaru continues to be the crown jewel of his family’s name, their pride and joy.

Post-Muzan

Hotaru's only goal in life aside from killing the demon king was to settle down and start his own family.
