He also struggles with his religion, and feels like he may be destined for hell.

He is very close with Brandon and Violet, who help him to cope. He is crushing on Brandon but refuses to admit it.

His family is poor, both parents are fairly cruel and trashy. 

He has a younger sister he is incredibly protective over.
