'Coin was dead for some time before their will was read - turns out that in pursuit of both strength and immortality they paid the Llawes Corporation enough to buy themself a set of inserts and their posthumous freedom. In the space of time it took between their untimely death and their pre-arranged resurrection, it seems some of their memories weren't preserved as well as their body. Their taciturn personality and impatience remain as they ever have, but details of their lost life tend to escape them now.
Upon returning to their home and the extremely criminal organisation they used to run, offering certain services for extortionate prices behind the front of a high-class bar, it wasn't hard for their former subordinates, now accustomed to being in charge, to convince Coin that they weren't intended as much more than a bodyguard, the living weapon they paid Llawes a small fortune to avoid becoming.
It seems they do all still fear the wrath of their former boss, however - Coin lives comfortably even in servitude.

- a good drink, a good smoke, a good meal. they have expensive taste which hasn't been satisfied since they died.

They Got Rich Through Violent Crime !!!!!! they were in charge of a bunch of people who did violent crime for them! they enforced their own rules over a territory that took up a chunk of the city! and they did this in a way that coexisted nicely with llawes. not cooperating or working for. but certainly neither would willingly bother the other.
they are blunt. they are rude. they Know Their Worth Instinctively... but only instinctively. because uh. they dont know much about themself anymore.
they dont even know how they died ! all they know is that it was long enough for a full autopsy before someone said 'hey wait their medical file says they have FIVE inserts set aside for them in case of emergency. uh we should give this corpse to llawes'
Unbleeder
An Unbleeder is a living weapon created from a recently-deceased human. Shards of metal taken from a fallen star are shaped into horn-like protrusions and inserted into a body after death, granting them ageless immortality and the ability to remove their heart from their chest - and with it, their compassion, allowing them to become unstoppably brutal on the battlefield. In an Unbleeder's hand, their own heart becomes a weapon, too, this one perfectly suited to its wielder.
easily tricked
they remember a lot as if through frosted glass - they know where they worked and lived, and the Feeling of what that work was like. they recognise people they were once close to (or who worked for them) as theyd recognise someone they shared one class with at a 10-year highschool reunion. if someone tells them 'oh, yeah, it was like this before' they tend to just Believe Them
so now they do a lot of the grunt work while their former lieutenants and underlings spend coins money and enjoy coins reputation

Mercutio
[ a helping hand ] Mercutio is always happy to help patch up Coin's subordinates co-workers when they're hurt in some of the more dangerous pursuits the gang involves themselves in. Coin appreciates that he doesn't ask.
Aurelius
[ crime spree buddy ] Apparently, they used to hang out and cause a ruckus a lot. Coin has no reason to disbelieve that.
Hex
[ it's not complicated ] They met at a bar after Hex ran in chasing her lost football (Hex does not play football). Somehow got talking and Coin took them home for the night. Now they regularly hook up for friendship and a bit more sometimes, and Hex will drag Coin to his roller derby competitions. They're basically best friends? The Odd Couple? Constantly fighting? They get along surprisingly well, is what I'm saying.
