Personality
To most, Mac appears aloof and uninterested. He doesn't share many words with strangers, but when he does he tends to sound bored, if not standoffish or simply rude. Talking with strangers just isn't his stront suit. He also has a bad case of resting bitch face, which doesn't help matters. This reputation doesn't upset him. It is easier to avoid the discomfort of interacting with strangers at all.
The few who know him more closely see that Mac is quiet by nature, but his silence doesn't mean he isn't enjoying himself. He just prefers the sounds of nature and, occasionally, his friends. The best wah to get him talking is to get on the topic of nature. His specialty may be caves, but he can (and will) talk for hours about any sort of environment, as the nature of the world fascinates him immensely.

Backstory
Early backstory TBD.
He made his home in a mossy cave he discovered and fell in love with. It is part of a small tunnel-like cavern that is open to the light and covered with moss, but is far enough inside to be sheltered from the rain that falls through. When it rains enough a small trickle of water nearby turns into a gentle river, carrying water from the surface into the depths of the cave. He explores all around the world, but this is the place he calls home. He likes to fancy himself an explorer as he examines the world and enjoys working with a certain anthropologist to piece together the intricacies of a region. He doesn't tend to write papers himself, but is listed as a co-author or researcher on multiple of her published works.
