Being born to a family under the Plari family-- which was much a very insigificant family -- Az'Raelis's full name was Plari'Az'Raelis. Riazra wasn't much of a special child. He knew he wanted to follow in his fathers footsteps and join the CEDF, leading him to dedicating much of his childhood to readying himself for that role. Riazra was a good bit closer to his father than his mother, and due to this, he pushed himself to his limits to please him. When he was about 10, his father, who was a Commodore in the CEDF, had been killed during a skirmish with pirates that had posed a threat to the ascendancy. After seeing how the loss had affected his mother, it made Riazra question if he truely wanted to follow that path. After giving a year for the fresh wound to heal, he decided to confide in her about it. His mother pushed him to fully persuing a future in the CEDF.

Not long after he himself had became a Commodore, stripping him of his Plari family name, Az'Raelis was tasked with checking out a possible threat along the outskirts of Chiss Space. Still feeling cocky from his promoiton and riding the high of victory from his fleet's last battle, Az'Raelis had grown a bit too daring this time around. His fleet was ambushed and it had pretty much became a massacre. The attacking pirates had decided that instead of killing the commodore, they would force him to watch his crew be slaughtered like livestock. The pirates had time to flee before assistance arrived. What the backup had found was a horrible, gorey scene; and a deeply disturbed Az'Raelis.

Az'Raelis is a tough, often harsh person. Despite this, a few of his crew have been able to crack through his emotional shell and found him to be a very pleasant person to talk to. His critiques can come off as very harsh, often downright rude, finding it constructive rather than destructive. He makes up for this by praising people with full meaning, which is why he doesn't praise for smaller things.

Az'Raelis has a great dislike for people he deems annoying, only saving begrudgid politeness for anyone with social and political status, or his superiors. He finds himself growing frustrated very quickly by obnoxious people and won't hesitate to state that he finds them a pain to be around. This was a reason he wasn't very liked at a young age.
