Name Meaning

Chaimen (ChEye-men, both singular and plural) is a word mixed between Chiar and Komen. Chiar is translated in several languages to just, right, exact, etc which also was used to relate it to the word Child. Komen is a word that represents the singular word Komet, translating to comet, of course. A Chaimen is the rightful child of its comet.

Species

Chaimen are beings of great lights and stars than span across the universe. They’re born from comets, and while most comets are icy bodies, some turn out to be eggs with a cold and disintegrating outer shell and an extremely warm inner shell from the Chaimen’s heat. As the comet slowly gets smaller and smaller, the being grows inside until it breaks through after years of building up energy to release in its new and beginning life in space.
Although Chaimen don’t need anything such as food, water, or air to survive, they still will carry some items around if they wish, so almost all Chaimen would keep parts of their egg with them throughout their life as a warm and comforting object to hold in tough times (like a blanket for a child). As expected, Chaimen go into their lives with wide eyes, so they do have to wait some time until they mature. Even though a Chaimen will always stay the same size as it was when it hatched, a Chaimen shows its maturity with the number of spikes on its tail. One spike means that it hasn’t lived for that long yet and still needs to experience many things before its true intelligence develops. The maximum spikes are five in the shape of a star at the end of the tail, and many of the dark protrusions on the Chaimen’s back are larger and more regal to witness as it flies around with ease and purpose.
Chaimen are also classified by their main color. While the skin of Chaimen (please see the starred extra at the end of the bio) are closely related to humans,

with the rare exception of white to gray to black with gray being uncommon and white/black being godly (although not really likable among other Chaimen),

their main color is dependent on how active or calm the Chaimen is for the color to either be warm or cool

which goes from red being active, green being neutral, and blue being calm.
To explain what a Chaimen would look like, here’s an example of my Chaimen, Tzel: His eyes would have white stars as pupils (example here:

) and white specs going from the base and spreading out to the rest of his eyes which would fade into pink, his main color. His streamline horns (reference to their shape here:

) would be white with a pink shine, his teeth would look like a pink tinted glass, his tongue would be pink with a white star on it, his mouth on the inside would be pretty much pink overall, and his arms and legs would be black with some parts fading in and out of the pink there. His fingertips would have shining white stars that’d leave star imprints on the skin of other Chaimen he touches (not any other species), and his back would have some protrusions that move to give him a light pink celestial/sparkling looking trail as he flies. He’d still have brown skin mostly, but his claws would be different. His tail would have one spike for now and it’ll have a white/pink shine on both sides (as seen above in his ref).
So Chaimen fall into many of the same attributes but only with their main color and their skin color changes not including the differences in maturity and meeting up with other Chaimen.

Social Interaction

Approaching other Chaimen is a very pleasant experience for the most part. Since they fly through space for a good while and enjoy their new lives outside of their comets, they will start to find each other and excitingly use their built up energy to either play fight or dance to see if they’re compatible to fly together. Ones that fly together usually have their tails wrapped around each other so they won’t float away. With this new connection, Chaimen would press their bodies close to each other, dance, and happily talk in a way that only those two would understand through years of learning from each other, even beginning to make a complex range of sounds for many different purposes. Through this, they talk about what they’ve seen, what they want to see, and the lasting star imprints on their bodies from the Chaimen they’ve seen before them if that occurred. Younger Chaimen are known to comfort older Chaimen for long periods of time since a lone Chaimen with many stars on its body would signify at least several break offs for different reasons or deaths of Chaimen in its care. Chaimen try not to cover up other star imprints on their partners’ bodies with their own due to not knowing how much that other Chaimen meant to their partner, so a great deal of respect is given between a couple as their relationship grows. After some time, a Chaimen may give a part of its egg to the one it loves as a sign that it trusts and feels comfort around its partner, wanting to fly with the other Chaimen for as long as fate will allow them to. At this point, the Chaimen would hold hands to leave their star imprints between their fingers or on spots across their hands which would bond the Chaimen further. This means a great deal more to blue Chaimen than red Chaimen since red Chaimen are so active and ready to take risky steps while blue Chaimen work with relationships slowly and get the best out of the first phases of their lives before opening up fully to one another. Neutrals seem to be better off alone in these mixes of active and passive until they feel strong enough to handle such differences unless they meet another neutral (then they act more like two beings wanting to not be alone as they talk than lovers).

Individual Names

They name themselves after they figure out words that sound the most pleasant sounding to them. Active Chaimen usually have a very ear catching sound to theirs (ex. Tzel), while Calm Chaimen have theirs as a slow and delicate name to enjoy (ex. Arin). It’s not uncommon for this to not occur though. It’s a general happening.

Chaimen using more than one name, such as a first and last name, is pretty rare and seemingly useless to other Chaimen. Languages a couple makes between each other may have their first name in front of their partner’s name to show that they’re together (like taking the last name of a family line).

Gender/Sexuality

Chaimen are born neither male or female (and their languages usually don’t classify anything by being feminine or masculine, but the artist may give whatever pronouns to an extent to their Chaimen).  Sexuality isn’t really understood by them, but some may seem to prefer warm or cool colored Chaimen more than the other or vice versa if they lived long enough to gain a preference. Some Chaimen may learn some other cultural ways of showing love from different planets, so kissing may occur if they visited Earth or other means from different aliens. Yes, it is considered lewd for Chaimen to have star imprints on their backsides and lower regions where their partners held them, but they don’t have any kind of sex since they don’t have the parts to do so. Violence is definitely something that they’re not comfortable with as well, so ones that do see that between creatures can quickly drive Chaimen away for a good while.

Age

Not including the vast amount of time spent inside of their comets, Chaimen are based more so on their maturity level to show their age as mentioned before. Depending on who they are, Chaimen may either reach their next tail spike in some hundred to some thousand earth years with hundreds being most common for calm Chaimen and thousands being for active (to explain how they’re positioned, if a Chaimen was standing with its tail in a normal position behind it, seeing the Chaimen from the side would show the full star, not looking at it from above it or below it) . Explaining their levels from the brief overview above is possible though:

Saying that D is the end of the tail and C stars to span across the top of the tail. If on a level such as C or E, the rest of the spike will connect with the tail and not leave an open gap.

1 tail spike (D) - Talk about young! These Chaimen are taking in every exciting thing to them and learn basic functions that stretch and promote the maturity of their bodies. Active Chaimen are mostly energetic in this phase of their lives, while Calm Chaimen tend to just show signs of curiosity but a high level of awareness. These Chaimen are the slowest flyers out of all the levels.

2 tail spikes (D, C) - The Chaimen lived for some time now and most likely met other Chaimen to continue their growth. Although they still have much to learn in this phase, their true power tends to start to seep through here aside from being so overloaded and unstable from their previous level.

3 tail spikes (D, C, B) - The Chaimen have lived for a good while and show off their maturity easily with their spikes and larger back protrusions. Most would have a partner at this time, so continuing to fly around and visit planets is their best option to expand their intelligence. These Chaimen fly an average speed in relation to the other Chaimen levels.

4 tail spikes (D, C, B, E) - Finally growing older! The Chaimen have lived thousands of earth years and possibly way more to reach this point. The Chaimen start to flesh out their regal stature with their dark markings, and the stars on their bodies start to become the best memories they point out to younger Chaimen as they meet up with them along their continued journeys.

5 tail spikes (”Star tailed”, D, C, B, E, A) - The most revered Chaimen of them all. These Chaimen have seen more than one could imagine, and while they may seem like cold and hurtful beings, these Chaimen actually just fly around with a purpose and help other Chaimen or creatures similar with their problems by actions and wise vocal sounds. Obviously, these Chaimen know several different kinds of Chaimen language and that it becomes harder to really take in what other Chaimen say while the star tailed sits around daydreaming about their past conversations with their partners. Star tailed have a much higher amount of power, therefore can put more energy into their back protrusions and fly faster than one spikes can ever dream of.

It’s unknown if a six star tail can be achieved, but many Chaimen rather believe that to be the case for the ones that have passed on and dance across the astral plains they cannot touch after their bodies are given back to their home. Chaimen do not believe in a kind of heaven or hell, but more of a second life to reach to continue their journey of lighting up the darkness around them, including in the chests of their future beloved.

It is rumored that a seven tail spiked Chaimen, the largest by the sheer power presented from seven full tail spikes and oldest Chaimen, lives somewhere hidden away where its all seeing eyes watches over its people. Some Chaimen say that whole galaxies rest inside the eyes of this Chaimen itself and stars are created from the protrusions on the Chaimen’s back, but most Chaimen don’t bother to believe that any of their kind can go past five tail spikes living and skip being a six spike by sheer power. The shape of the seven tail spiked Chaimen is a star with one spike jutting out from each side. Some Chaimen even believe that the end of this Chaimen’s tail is their version of the north star and will shine for all eternity for the younger Chaimen to follow. This Chaimen is also described as one to not be worshipped, but to be treated like family and not forgotten (since most Chaimen hate the feeling of loneliness so much).

Size

Size varies a small bit between Chaimen, but other than a tolerance of one foot (.3m), most tend to stay around the 12ft mark. They don’t weigh much though due to not needing to eat anything and most of their body being made of light. A Chaimen won’t deflate if you hug it hard though. It still has filling material inside and a structure similar to bone to keep them from having noodle arms and whatnot.

Accessories

Chaimen have more astral projected hair (it can be any color), so having stars in it is definitely common. Actual clothing is something only known from Chaimen that visit other planets for periods of time which doesn’t apply to rarity or maturity level. Some Chaimen may turn the parts of their comet that they saved into a necklace if they find string, but most don’t wear a lot of anything unless gifted many pieces of clothing. Some of the shiniest gifts end up being the most likable to Chaimen.

Combat

If these beings become scared or engage in combat, the black coloring would shine a burning white which hardens the soft black material temporarily to protect them. Their powers are more for defense though. A star shield could pop up if they focus hard enough, but most would rather take the blow with their white armor-like skin. If they don’t fight by just scratching, biting, and spinning wildly with their claws locked in space, then they could use their light and heat to form sharp, burning weapons, but only the same number of spikes they have on their tail can it happen. This is usually not done though since they lose some of their own energy and light by doing this, and if fighting another Chaimen, the other could absorb that energy if they catch it. Chaimen are very wary of their own powers when dealing with one another in this manner, even when they’re just playing. Chaimen are obviously very experienced flyers, so fighting around dangerous objects in space too pose no problem for the bright aliens.

A power that only five spike tailed Chaimen can do that can’t be absorbed by other Chaimen is them being able to summon sharp, burning, individual stars with their own glow color (ex, Tzel’s would be white with a pink glow to them like the ones on his body). Each star is the size of their maker’s palm and can float around the Chaimen willingly, in a circular pattern, etc. This is more for a quick paced attack or one to scare younger Chaimen away with their strength. The reason why it’s only for five spiked is because the stars come out of their tail and usually spin around the Chaimen’s body until they float to the Chaimen’s comfort level during this. A very powerful and wonderful display for others to witness, but also a dangerous one to the enemy if they’re enticed by what they see and get hit by a star they didn’t notice.

Other Powers

Chaimen can float even with a gravitational pull present on a planet, but it irritates most of them since it takes more of their energy to be pushed out of their back to make it work. They can increase their glow to get another Chaimen to notice them, and some may even glow while holding each other to comfort the other Chaimen in the span of darkness around them. The warmer a Chaimen is, though, the less of a glow they’ll need since their light comes from the heat they make inside their bodies to cancel out the differences between how cold or hot it can be around them. Many glow a lot because most of space being empty which doesn’t have enough gas particles or a close distance to a hot celestial body to warm itself up. The only way to truly know how hot it is inside a Chaimen is to look into their eyes as a dust particle approaches them. The dust particle would seemingly disappear before it could irritate the Chaimen, making the act of blinking something for different purposes and not needed as often as it is for humans. But, in other words, if a human placed their hand on a Chaimen’s skin, it’d be the equivalent of one placing their hand on a burning stove for a while.

Taboo

No, Chaimen are never known to kill each other or go on a killing spree for anything, so worrying about their safety from an older Chaimen with many star imprints is not an issue.
Something that’s taboo across Chaimen is using their fingers to draw purposefully on each other as jokes or anything of the sorts to break their trust and permanently leave a bad impression of touching another Chaimen due to the other’s immaturity. Chaimen can leave as many stars as they want on each other (as greedy as some may seem with it), but dragging their fingers across each other is something that’s sure to start a fight and a quick break up that the victim may never recover from.

Death

One that dies loses all of the stars on its body and is laid on the surface of a planet so it can turn back into star dust and give it’s wonderful life back to the world for another to enjoy one day. A Chaimen that dies is usually already with another Chaimen, so the other Chaimen will finish this process for its partner. The live Chaimen may cry during this, but since Chaimen don’t have water in their systems, the white specs in their eyes fall until the only things left are their star pupils (almost like they lost the stars in their eyes when their partners lost theirs completely).  It takes a while for those specs to form back, and sometimes, they never become as bright as they were before, prompting more comfort from the younger Chaimen to them if they meet another. Empathy and understanding is shared amongst older Chaimen, so a close bond can form quickly in a very mature manner this way. They seem to want to love less but talk more during those times of their lives, but it’s hard to get a language across when both of them want to use the languages developed with their past lovers. Most mix in what they learned together to get by.

Extra

Inspirational music for the creation of the species is now in a playlist located [here]. This isn’t saying that the songs will be pretty or related to space, but only what helped me make Chaimen for different reasons.

Chaimen do regular cleaning of themselves by brushing their hot hands down their body to burn any grime off of them until they find water on a planet to clean themselves off. Most choose barren planets to do this or even visit reservoirs of water located around space to clean themselves in.

Chaimen don’t have tastebuds and have somewhat rough tongues.

While joking Chaimen are fun to be around, pranking Chaimen are ones seen as heavily disturbed due to the amount of trust Chaimen put into each other. One that was pranked may or may not lash out in sheer anger from the humiliation they feel, even if it was something simple.

Despite being able to fly as fast as they can and live for as long as they do, Chaimen will always be able to find a new part of their home to talk about to other Chaimen. It’s not uncommon for Chaimen to prefer talking about their feelings instead though. Chaimen can feel very lonely even if they find other creatures to greet throughout their lives if they don’t see other Chaimen periodically.

Chaimen have no need to sleep, but a couple may have one line itself out and the other lay on top of that Chaimen to rest and absorb light from the stars around, tightening their bond dramatically.

Chaimen can sense other Chaimen by seeing the residue of other Chaimen trails that would never be possible to see by human eyes.

Chaimen don’t usually fly in numbers over two since privacy is a great sign of respect across the species. There are some Chaimen that do wish to fly with mutliple Chaimen though due to their want for more company.

While making new languages takes a long time for couple Chaimen to do- improving their bond immensely- learning already made languages is very easy for them with proper explanations. They’re talented at mimicking sounds (ex. birds chirping and cats meowing), but understanding all of that is just as lost to them as the average person since animals aren’t able to explain what they say. Chaimen would try their hardest to learn though. It’s rare for Chaimen to give up on anything.

Chaimen can only smell when they’re on planets, and they can sometimes recognize where other Chaimen have been since Chaimen usually remember the distinct smells different planets have. They don’t focus on it too much.

**Chaimen “skin” is not actually skin and cannot be burned by ultraviolet rays like human skin can, no matter how light their body cover appears. Chaimen skin has a more silky feel than skin-like if not accounting the extreme heat that comes along with it.**

Chaimen show embarrassment or “blush” by glowing extremely bright out of surprise since a shock to their nerves would be read as fear.

Sad Chaimen have a very dim glow.

Chaimen ears are pretty small and human-like with connected lobes. While the appearance is the same, the insides are much different to pick up slight sound waves barely traveling through space. The different pressure on other planets can sometimes make any Chaimen dizzy trying to land on it.
