after the (not really) mysterious death of both her parents, a german medical scientist named dr von kitzler offered to mentor her so long as she helped him in his research. the goal was to give humans more robust regenerative abilities closer to reptiles such as lizards and snakes. he often dangled the idea that if they succeeded she’d be able to bring her parents back over her head.

von kitzler was eventually personally beheaded by the lower-rung doctors for his experimentation on children. ynes managed to preserve his head in a life support jar so he can continue guiding their research. however he is in unimaginable pain and she finds him difficult to understand what with the german accent and groans of agony and all
