These creatures are the trees of the Deeps, twisted by the energy of self-loathing and learned helplessness. Their hunger is driven by the collective dark-energy present in those who reside and visit the forest. The more they hunger, the more they feed on what was once their own kind - the trees. Too much darkness in the heart can throw an entire ecosystem out of balance.
