Eli

200 years into the future, most of humanity has left the planet to escape a climate catastrophe. Fresh from space on a prestigious scholarship and living with her biologist aunt and uncle on Earth, Eli is a technological body mod enthusiast who is allergic to absolutely everything biological on the planet, ESPECIALLY cats, hence her filtration mask. Her mods are all external/aesthetic: she uses a mechanical exoskeleton to adjust to higher planetary gravity, and the "replicant" eyes are colored contacts but she swears they're real. Eli is lonely and a bit self-conscious: most of her friends are online fandom buddies living in faraway orbital ships, and she is already starting to regret being pressured to deorbit for the sake of an internship she isn't sure that she is interested in anymore, on a ranch with no internet or plastic recycle-printing, with no foreseeable way to get off-planet. She is desperately looking for an independent study to throw herself into that would make this big mistake worthwhile: that project turns out to be cats.
