An important design note is that the close-up eye on his ref is only a ref of when he's using what little magic he has. Usually his eye fleck is a lot less prominent. Proper colour for that is in the palette section. His nose, brows, eye "shadow"/bags, ear tufts, and greasy mullet are all the darkest level of the palette.
He CANNOT cast any more magic than that! No eye trails or glowy stuff. Just glorified cataracts.
