Born in 1940 under a Japanese-occupied Korea, Min-jun's first legal name was actually Minoru. For the first few years of his life this was the name he went by, to classmates and such. However at home his name had always been Min-jun. In 1943, his younger sister Ji-yu was born. He doesn't remember much from around then but he does remember that was when his close bond with his sister developed and the two became extremely close. While his family life and such was pretty good he definitely grew up with a lot of anxieties surrounding basically everything due to you know what cough cough. These anxieties ended up sticking with him throughout his teenage and adult years. After the end of WWII however was a very relieving point in time for him. He was able to tell his classmates his real name and all sorts of other things like that. Though, the peace didn't last long and by the time he was 10 yet another war had broken out and this time it was a lot closer to him.
Min-jun's parents did not want to leave Korea for quite awhile. They had just gotten their culture back and had wanted to teach more of it to their children but in the end they figured that it would be safer for them if they moved away.
