You know how you let yourself think that everything will be alright if you can only get to a certain place or do a certain thing. But when you get there you find it's not that simple.

Your story is an old one. You are the stupid girl, lost in the woods. You are the pampered noble child, sheltered from just as much beauty as you were pain. You are a flowered kept in a shaded, warm room, suddenly thrust into the outdoors and eaten alive by it all.
Or, at least you would be, if you ( to quote your father ) “had any sort of sense about you”. Because your parents certainly tried to write that old story: the one of a sheltered little girl, who would know nothing of how the world likes to bash you about a little bit ( nothing of scraped knees, of yellowing bruises, nothing of hurt, or of hunger ). And while you’ve certainly had it easy, because you are not their first troublesome child, you know more of what it is to be alive than they’d like.
You are half parts ”I can do it” and ”just let me try once more”. You are fueled by why, and how - gods you’ve driven your tutors mad with it. They stuffed your hands full of books in return so they might know peace ( they gave you a world right there, foolish men, and so you explored it until your eyes tired and your head throbbed. In this, they would never know peace, because there was always more, and you would always ask ). What you could not explore for yourself - which, mind you, was most things - you chased in text.
So you know so much, and you have done so little, and it is because of this you don’t know anything at all. All the important things are never written down ( scholars are funny that way ). There are just some things you have to do, aren’t there? You know this to be true, so you try bravery on as if it were a mask, and it does not fit ( you are afraid, always ). You try strength on like you do a necklace, and it does not fit ( you are a soft girl ).
But tenacity fits you. You wear it like a damn crown. You pull it on like exotic silk, and it holds you perfectly.
Because if there is one thing you truly do not know, and probably never will: it is when to quit.

The Beginning. . .
- Born of barely noble birth ( they held more coin than political pull, but this was enough to have some small local power ). A successful, wealthy, and small family. One of two mages among her siblings.
- Has, by all accounts, a relatively uneventful childhood. Pursues many hobbies in their abundant free time, but sticks to very few. Noncommittal, much to their family’s irritation. Music holds their interest long enough to make them gifted with most string instruments, but even this they tire of eventually. Too frightened to explore - both of the unknown and of their parents' ire - so they take to reading. Collects a library larger than many estates by the time they’re 16.
