tries to relate to his kids, but just. genuinely doesnt really realize theyre older now and arent the people he thought of them as/planned for them to be; talks down to them and treats them like small kits, probably brings them gifts to try and relate?? but doesnt know anything of their interests or actual personalities, so the gifts tend to ring kind of hollow. he keeps a lot of secrets and quietly thrives off of being in control/feeling powerful, and has a very very specific, narrow, and set idea of who his family should be that he never put in the effort to raise them into. liked the idea of having a family and really did love his wife, but doesnt understand that other people have different needs and life experiences than him
hes not outright abusive or intentionally toxic, hes just. a privileged man whos been on top of the system his entire life, and who doesnt realize that his kids arent as priviliged as he is."
