  • Deaf, proficient at reading lips but doesn't talk much in turn
  • Deep gravely voice
  • Cuts his own hair (and it's pretty obvious)
  • Seems stoic, but is just a bit introverted
  • Can almost always find his way purely off star tracking
  • Very proficient in making shelters
  • He works the Soul Forge, a place where weapons created act as retainers for fractured souls to be collected, including those of the past lives of Carnals
  • It’s very rare that any of these Carnal weapons become fully whole due to their cursed origin
  • Every 10 years or so Bataar will take a sabbatical for a time to travel the mortal plane, experience life as they do. On these sacred trips he’ll often wander mountains and wilderness, surviving off the land. But eventually he always ends his journey in the city visiting with old friends-He attempts to always catch up with two of Adelaide’s most infamous immortal victims, Nolan and Dahlia. This often helps him release some pent up sexual energy as well

Backstory Blurb

A recruit of Adelaide herself, Bataar is an old Mongol warrior and a rare survivor of her forest. Bataar was the first ever victim of the woods to find the ever elusive exit portal and almost escaped. With misleading warnings about the world's passage of time without him, and an irresistible offer from the witch herself, the warrior reluctantly struck a deal and was consequently plucked from his own history in favor of saving the histories of others.

Bataar was given station by the Chronicler as the first and only master of the Soul Forge. A powerful device that drew in fragments of lost souls like a lure. The missing memories, stolen stories, and fragmented essences of those who didn't pass on easily (primarily Carnals and Virtues) are pulled into pieces of weapons that can only be put together once complete. The more powerful the fragments, the more potent the magic of the newly forged weapon. However due to the cursed nature of the Carnals, not one of the current thirteen's soulbound weapons have been able to be completed. It seems that upon their true, final death, one last piece is released and the creation can finally become whole.

In one exception to this, a fallen Virtue, stripped of her memories, powers, immortality, and former life has relinquished all of the necessary fragments to create a fully finished weapon for a still living being. It's Adelaide's meddling that has ensured the dangerous weapon will one day find its way to the proper owner and return to her the lost power and memories and inevitably result in her vengeance on those who cast her down.
Until that happens, Bataar enjoys his more peaceful, and blissfully ignorant meetings with Yelena. Never once daring to bring up the near death state he discovered her in on his travels.

As a part of his Faustian bargain with Adelaide, Bataar refused to accept immortality without exception. In his time in the Carnal planes he does not age, has no need to eat, breathe or sleep, much like the others. To fight against this slowly but surely, every passing decade or so he takes a year-long pilgrimage so that he may age for a time and live as mortals do. Most of this time is spent traveling wildernesses and building a home for himself in the wilds. Eventually, inevitably abandoning it to time so that he may return to his sworn duties.

As a somewhat neutral entity on the planes, and with his own demiplane to boot, Bataar has become something of an intermediary between the Carnal. His judgement and neutrality respected by most parties involved. That being said, three most often pull on his attention: Adelaide, who holds a morbid curiosity for prodding the man on occasion and attempting to break his nerve. Arson, who often "mistakes" the Soul Forge for his own Scrap Yard and rushes in wrecking everything. And finally, Gehenna, the Carnal of Lust who perpetually attempts to jump his old bones. With a near perpetual pent up need born from decades of solitude, Bataar is hard pressed to deny her.
Given his adrenaline tap and her insatiable curse, they often have to be broken up by the Gatekeeper in order to resume their duties lest they spend literal years fucking.

Demiplane

The Soul Forge: A mostly blank expanse with an impressive blacksmith's forge in the middle of relatively nowhere. Any attempt to walk far in an opposite direction of the forge will eventually lead back to it. This makes it simultaneously impossible to get lost...and a terrible plane to try and take a morning jog in. There is no weather, relatively minimal earth and foliage limited to a small perimeter surrounding the forge, and no day/night cycles. When you work in a relatively knockoff snow-globe for so long, it's no wonder he prefers to experience a slow death that gives him the freedom to enjoy the highs and lows of life.
