Profile

Caspian the Dumbo Octopus Dragon

A very whimsical and curious young sea dragon, inhabiting the tropical islands, reefs, and atolls around his home. Often hides in deeper waters during tropical storms and monsoons, and coming up to the surface or onto shore during warm and pleasant weather. Others of his species are rare, but he is usually content with just exploring on his own, very much capable of caring for himself and avoiding any potential predators (usually sharks or other large carnivorous fish).

While very soft-bodied and vulnerable at first glance, Caspian has a variety of defenses that allow him to escape conflict without a fight. These abilities include...

  • Surviving high pressure/deep waters, able to move between high and low pressure zones with little difficulty
  • Able to see in the dark
  • Can fit into very small spaces (cartilaginous skeleton; if his skull fits, he can fit)
  • Spits fluorescent pink ink (the same color as his blood) to create a distraction or startle potential threats
  • Quick regeneration; able to regenerate missing tentacles or heal would quickly
  • Sharp beak capable of crushing clams, as a last resort

However, this dragon is very friendly, and quite trusting. He loves brightly colored or shiny objects, often exploring around shipwrecks or finding discarded human possessions. Much like other dragons, he has even created his own miniature "hoard" of shines; however, he often uses these as bargaining tokens or gifts to make friends or dispel conflict rather than protecting it as viciously as his Western counterparts. Overall, he lives a very placid and pacifist life (to all but crustaceans), floating on his back and snacking on clams, enjoying the tropical breeze and peaceful waters of his reef home.
