"To live knowing they will suffer, to know their death is always guaranteed, for that reason I cast my vote with humanity."

basics
name Orpheus
title Arbitrer & Withholder of Fate
gender Appears to be male
age Immortal
orientation Panromantic
r. status Taken
occupation Emissary
species The First

Possessing the ability to understand emotions like no other, Orpheus seemingly always has a sort of melancholic look to him - the weight of the planet's cries resting on his shoulders.

Born as one of the first to ever step foot on this star, Orpheus was the one who nurtured life like it was his own child, always present to see life be reborn over and over, to see generations upon generations etch their names in history, always listening to all the stories the planet had to tell. His seat - The Emissary, came after centuries of conflict with his brethren, wanting to prove to them that life truly is a lot more special than they believe it to be. Protecting it with all his might, he continues the fight to show to them that humanity is more than capable to hold their fate in their own hands, making him the first ever to gain the title of the Withholder of Fate, although admittedly it was originally a self-proclaimed one from the time he was ready to fight anything and anyone in an attempt to save his first love.

Unwilling to accept the fate that his loved one must meet his end, he used all of his strength to cast a spell no other Ancient dared trifle with up to this point - Tears of Cyan falling down his gentle face, symbolising both the immense amount of power and what it stood for - Granting immortality to a man of humanity, to a man he loved as much as the entire star. Prepared for anything, Orpheus for the first time raised his hand against his own - for the first time feeling uncertain, yet he was content in his choice as the feelings in his heart guided him forward.

The higher-ups, while at first caught in disbelief that Orpheus would ever forsake his duty, admit that the power of Emotion humanity and especially Orpheus seems to have is not something to be brushed off easily. After many long trials and discussions, they eventually decided to not revoke Orpheus's title and instead make him the representative of humanity, as it seemed that there was still much and more to learn about the people who live on this planet, and if anyone was going to learn, it would be the one Angel who harbored the utmost care for not just humanity, but every single living being on the star - The one who denied fate with his entire being and has shown to understand humanity on a personal level - Orpheus.

story

Unbroken promises

Ancients, also referred to as The First or Guardians, are beings who’ve lived on this star before anybody else and are the reason why it has any sort of life. Every element, every living creature, every miniscule thing that makes the planet alive is thanks to the tireless efforts from the First. For centuries they had been referred to with many different names, each generation having their own set of beliefs for them. Today, they are most commonly referred to as “Angels” yet their titles have always stayed the same; watchers of the planet, the arbiters of fate. Their curiosity knew no bounds as they would constantly explore and gain knowledge of their surroundings, all which benefited their cause for further development of the star.

Yet though they were immortal, they knew that everything had to come to an end, even their own lives. At some point, people are going to become more and more capable, and so as time went on they dwelled less on the ground and spent more time in the sky - waiting and watching, guiding them whenever they could, while still ensuring that the star would never suffer. They always seeked some level of contact with humanity, seeing them as the children of the planet itself and wanting to ensure that the star was in safe hands.

I hear you, I see you

Each Angel possessed unique abilities, all of which help them in serving their roles in their own unique way - it could be anything from vision that allowed them to spot any living creature within thousands of kilometers, senses sharper than any other creature’s, to magic abilities such as creation magicks, element mastery and anything and everything in between.

Orpheus however, is a rather particular case. An Angel that possessed an extraordinary ability - to be able to sense each and every single creature’s emotions, and be able to replicate it if he so wished. He loved this star more than anyone - and it clearly showed as he had always shown great discomfort and sorrow when it came down to the execution of either their own failed experiments, or actual life on the planet that the Angels had either deemed far too dangerous or deemed it was not their fate to continue their lives. For the longest time he would argue with his kind, always asking:

“Was this truly the only way? Are we truly unable to change our course? As the First who nurtured this star and seen it grow, could we not work towards a different answer?”

Always so caring, he would never give up on any life no matter how much others tried to tell him it was futile - There is always a chance to begin anew, to continue on and live, and Orpheus understood better than anyone how imperfect the planet and its residents truly are, and he never wanted it to change.

Until the end, I pray

He would spend much of his time learning more about humanity, seeing how much more complicated things have become since they first began residing in the skies and continuing on with their silent vigil. He felt their sorrows, their aggression and their hatred, and after some time came to understand that all of their sadness only strengthened their bonds, and made their happier moments all the more powerful, however short they might have been. He felt their love and compassion, their spark for life, which only fueled his desire to protect them. Despite their conflicts and uncertainty of the future, their persistence was unlike anything Orpheus had seen before, years later becoming their representative to the Angels, spending his time teaching his kind and sharing the emotions he himself felt while living with humanity - the emotions he felt when he first fell in love, and those he felt when he too was uncertain and lost. He felt it necessary for his kind to understand what they are protecting and what they are taking away whenever a person has to meet their end.

Today, he continues to live with his partner and as the Arbiter and now Withholder of Fate, he is the one in charge of humanity’s lives and troubles, tasked to be the first to report if there was any sort of trouble to his higher-ups, while also spending his time sharing his experiences, thoughts and feelings to the Angels who were curious to learn more. Each day he aspires to learn more about humanity’s way of life while being a part of it, and rejoices in each and every new discovery, forever curious and forever continuing to yearn for more of his kind to come into acceptance and appreciation for life, to love the flightless children of the star.

While not being the most powerful in terms of physical strength, Orpheus is still more than capable to send enemies to the sky with powerful kicks, utilizing his speed and agility to quickly get close to the enemy and quickly move away when necessary. He's versatile, and able to be both in close and long range.

magical abilities

Other than his emotion ability, he's able to use his creation magicks to either give himself a weapon, or create a sort of magic shield/barrier that can protect anyone he sees. Teleportation is also something he will be caught using frequently. His usual weapon of choice is his instrument - A black seven string guqin, decorated in silver metalic ornaments and parts colored in cyan which glow when ever he uses it exensively. He plays various melodies that can affect a person in various ways, such as stunning them, immobilizing them, or pushing them away. He also uses the guqin to occasionally talk with spirits, combining his power of emotion and melody into words the spirits can understand and reply to.

When talking to other species, often times humanity as well, he can talk to them in their minds, never actually using his own voice, but rather mimicking it in the form of a thought that occupies a person's mind. If he focuses enough he can reach multiple people at once when ever he has an urgent message to send to humanity or his own kind.

After spending a lot of his time on earth with other humans, he's found a new favorite hobby - Taking care of flowers. He's especially keen towards those that match either him or his partner.

The wings on his lower body can disappear at will, but the ones on his head are always there.

Since he's one of the oldest of his kind, he was frequently given the title of an older brother, since he spent much of his time taking care of other Angels, teaching them about their star.

Despite his old age, he retains the relatively young-like appearance due to his immortality.

relationships

Aindreas - Partner

A man bursting with passion, Orpheus couldn't help but fall in love with him. Stubborn and too brave by half is something that he can understand and relate to, although it doesn't make him worry any less about him when ever he's in dangerous situations. After just barely being able to save his life , Orpheus was plagued with nightmares for the longest time, always recalling that day and what would've happened if he hesitated but for a moment. Since then he's learned to deal with these feelings and learned to trust Aindreas more than his thoughts can push him in a corner of overthinking things. Both care about each other immensely and Orpheus always does whatever is in his power to never let Aindreas's fire light out.
