In the Plane of Mirrors, Aranvir is the son of Eorie Garlius and Mavvir Ulden, a fiend and celestial from influential families of their races. Despite it all, the two love each other, and Aranvir is raised in a loving home. Their town is small and grows into a city with the help of his parents, with his mother being the captain of the Guard, and his father being an aide to the noble and mayoral houses in town. Aranvir enrolls in and graduates the Guard Academy with flying colors. His father gives him his sword, and his mother gives him her dagger. Part of him truly longs for more adventure. Though the celestial and fiend races dislike their union, Aranvir vows to protect his family, and is able to defeat any who come to try and rip his family apart. He meets the love of his life, Elivyre Teabarrel, after saving her brother from a fire that destroyed her home, but not the city thanks to his inspiring heroics. He has twin children with her, and lives a happy and very fulfilling life.

However, this is all in a realm that is a reflection of the Mortal Plane.

In the Mortal Plane, Aranvir is the son of Eorie Garlius and Mavvir Ulden, a fiend and celestial from influential families of their races. Despite it all, the two love each other, but they realize that they must keep Aranvir’s existence a secret. The town they raise him in is small, and the two are distant. He becomes a troublemaker, and is enrolled in the Guard Academy in hopes of keeping him out of said trouble. This does little, but he does graduate. What he truly longs for is a true family, and he vows to keep his mother and father together despite the tension between their races and families. However, he is unsuccessful, and after hearing his parents fighting over him one night, he steals his father’s sword and his mother’s dagger and runs away. He forms a mercenary group that gains modest success, and he has a ruthless, merciless reputation. He meets someone from his old town, Elivyre Teabarrel, one night in a bar. She explains that their town burned to the ground, and she lost her family in the flames. No one can tell if they love or hate each other. Maybe both.

One day, somehow, someway, the Aranvir from the Plane of Mirrors wakes up in the body of his Mortal Plane reflection. Somehow, perhaps, their souls have been switched. He has no idea how, and he is horrified to find that he now has to be the merciless, ruthless leader of a band of mercenaries. However, he finds a quick friend in Hestara Halfelven, and the matter of his cruel reputation is saved thanks to her. After all, if someone as fierce as Hestara answered to Aranvir, then how terrifying was he? His focus remains attempting to find a way home, and hoping that his wife and children are safe.
