When humans pass on without fulfilling their goals and dreams, they become legendary guardians sworn to protect the living, so that they are able to reach their goals.
These guardians are called Kitsune Companions.
Kitsune Companions are a duo composed of the spirit of a person and a creature who looks like a fox, and turns into a weapon to fight off darkness. These two are bonded at the core, and if a fox is separated from a spirit, they will both turn into creatures of darkness. A Kitsune Companion is a symbol of luck and confidence, and having one can give the owner the will to continue shooting for the stars.
The spirit half of the pair is always blind and deaf, so they communicate through "foxy noises" made by their foxes/weapons. Also, when the fox turns into its weapon form, it lends its ability to see and hear to the spirit half.
