Don't worry, dearie, she's no one important. Maybe a time ago, but... no. No need to be formal. Sit up straight - all the kids nowadays, slouching and ruining their backs before they've even had a chance to ruin their lives! Chin up, lovey, she wants to see your eyes. She's just a little old lady, alone but not lonely, who would yell at you for visiting but talk to you for hours. She also happens to help run a secret network of primarily nonmages who help mages escape from the Order, but that's unimportant. She's always willing to share her candy with visitors, hard caramels and strawberry lozenges. Occasionally she has something special, but she warns most away from those - those are her special medicine, and they only come out with the Order comes to visit. History

She doesn't like to talk about her life, or what she's been through. She remembers the wars, remembers the monsters, remembers watching the Order continuously tightening their grip until it became a stranglehold. She remembers fear growing until it was all you could do but breathe it in, and then it waned a bit, not forgotten but buried where you could ignore it. The Order would keep the people safe, no need to worry about what the government was doing, hurry hurry and rush for yourself.

She doesn't talk about being married, but when she does, the story is never straight. She was married to a girl named Samantha, a boy named Hernando, a person named Tennin. They had children - one and seven and none and three. And they died, or left her, or are still out there, just waiting for her to take them back.

She has enough money to live on, enough money to care for her, but not enough money that many would want to steal from her. Even if they did, her will is all tied up with a bow - any money she leaves behind gets shuffled and moved and folded until it finds its way into the pockets of a surprising number of potential unions.
