Socks is a wild little stuffed dog manufactured by a British toy maker sometime in the 1940s. Originally designed as a pyjama bag for a toddler's nursery, Socks was mostly used as decoration and scarcely played with, much to his dismay. Now that he can run on his own little legs, he is off to wreak havoc wherever he can wreak it. A seemingly fearless pup, he is quite fond of telling crazy stories about his life, although the truth to his stories is often disputed. Obvious to everyone is the fact that he is missing an eye (although he stores spare glass eyes in his zipper, he thinks he has more charm without one and only uses the spares to read), but no one really knows where it went. He loves telling people he lost it in the Blitz, but your guess is as good as anyone's. It's no shocker that he loves reading adventure novels. Influenced by film and novel vagabonds, Socks is quite the pickpocket and if you unzip him you can find many small treasures that don't belong to him—among his sock stuffing, of course. However, he has no malicious intentions and likes to do things in good spirits... most of the time. Interestingly enough, Socks loves American country and folk music despite not hearing much of it in his English town when he was a wee naïve toy. His favourite singers are Jimmie C. Rodgers, Lead Belly, Cisco Houston, Gid Tanner & His Skillet Lickers, Abner Jay, and Woody Guthrie. Play any of these on a good old vinyl and he'll have a hoot!
