Thirteen Tolls of the Bell

About
Thirteen is a tabaxi who used to wear a mirror-like mask throughout most of their daily life. After a recent fight at the local arena, the mask got damaged and they overall had a bad time after discovering they got at least some of their magical powers from the god of undead. But that's a story for another time.
They primarily communicate through sign language, or so they wish... Most people they've encountered on their adventures sadly don't know much about this sign language, but luckily Thirteen usually has a "plan B" for communicating. It's still a rather new ability of theirs, but they can form a telepathic connection with others and "talk" that way. Their telepathic voice sounds quite eerie though, like nails across chalkboard.
Background
Thirteen spent most of her life as a monk in the Apex Sanctuary, which is a both a monastery and temple dedicated to Beyond The Halls, the deity of knowledge and the arcane. One fateful night, while she was watching the stars from the observatory, Thirteen felt a surge of energy pass through her body. It wasn't exactly a pleasant feeling, and left her with small almost starmap-like wounds on her face and right arm that eventually turned into scars. Thirteen strongly believes that this experience was Beyond The Halls trying to contact her, and it is also the source of all her psionic/magical abilities.
After being kicked out of the Apex Sanctuary because they couldn't exactly control their newfound magic and hurt some fellow monks with it, Thirteen decided that now was as good as a time as any to visit the city of Adedir they they had heard so many stories about. Most of these stories had been told by adventurers who had come to the Apex Sanctuary for a variety of reasons, and Thirteen had found them quite fascinating. So, they set out to travel southwards, away from the mountain area they'd grown up in and out into the desert.

Combat
Thirteen heavily relies on their magic in combat. Depsite their lack of real training when it comes to combat and magic in the first place, they're quite capable of saving themself and maybe also others if situations get dire.
Telepathic Speech
The easiest way of talking to strangers who don't understand sign language, whether they like it or not.
Arms of Hadar
One of Thirteen's favorite spells to use in combat, which manifests as dark space-like tendrils that attack their surroundings.
Toll the Dead
A simple yet useful spell that projects the sound of a loud bell in someone's mind. There appears to be an odd echoing howl to it though...
Spellcasting focus
This clouded black orb begins to glow with stars as soon as Thirteen casts her spells.
not-cursed toenail jar
Currently one of Thirteen's most prized possessions... A simple, non-magical glass jar that has a bunch of toenail clippings in it.
Personality
Thirteen aims to be the type of mysterious figure people tell stories about, and while they might be able to keep up this act for the first few minutes of a conversation it becomes quite clear that they're actually a fairly normal person. A fairly normal person with somewhat odd interests, that is.
curious | "weird" | gullible
She likes to collect things most people might deem strange, which all started with the toenail clipping jar. This jar is currently the only item in this collection, but Thirteen cares deeply about it for reasons she herself doesn't quite know either.
Thirteen is capable of speaking in non-telepathic ways, but ever since they got their sorcerous magic their voice has become quite hoarse and actually talking doesn't feel "right" to them. Because of this, they will only speak in situations where they feel like others would "deserve" to hear their true voice, or situations in which there is no other way to make something clear.
Design Notes
- Constellation-like scars cover their face and right arm, but are usually hidden underneath the mirror-like mask and bandages.
- Outfit design by RaicyRose.
- They have some small tufts of fur on the tips of their ears.

- Thirteen was originally based on a different OC of mine with a similar name (though this other OC is simply called "Thirteen" instead of the full "Thirteen Tolls of the Bell"). These characters are still somewhat connected in origin, but other than that they are two separate characters.
- Gender-wise, Thirteen identifies as a demigirl.
- She strongly believes to have been blessed by the god of magic and the cosmos, but might have overlooked the fact that the god of undead and fear is often associated with the stars as well...
