Summary
Caramelo's name is derived from the Spanish word for 'candy', which he adopted due to the fact that children tend to think that's what he'll give them if they repeatedly beat him with a bat or stick. He was never born, and seemed to just 'appear' one day in the middle of Puebla, Mexico - hence, he has no birthday. For all intents and purposes, he'll tell you he was born on December 16th. Not only because this ironically makes him a Sagittarius, but because it's the first day of Las Posadas, a celebration where piñatas are especially popular. The confetti-like material on his head and neck genuinely feels like tissue-paper, but the rest of him is indescribable. Those who've tried to pet him describe the texture as anything from gooey, to non-existent. Almost like they're touching nothing. The black mass that makes up Caramelo's body can take any shape, although he has a limited amount of it to work with - that is, he can change to look more like another animal, but can't make himself into a bigger horse. The confetti will always frame his face and run down his neck, no matter what he looks like. With this in mind, he's never considered turning into something else. He doesn't have any internal organs, bones or blood, and can't feel pain or take physical damage. He doesn't need to eat anything to survive, either. Caramelo is a nervous thing, preferring loud parties to the silence and darkness - which he has an acute fear of. This anxiety causes his confetti to fall out. He's almost constantly leaving a trail of blue, yellow and purple, but it seems to be growing back as quickly as it's falling out. Despite his timid nature, he loves people. He loves children the most, because children love him. Most children who know him have learned he isn't actually a piñata, but that doesn't stop him from letting them chase him with sticks and baseball bats. Alternatively, Caramelo will naturally be drawn to parties where no piñata is present, especially if it's a child's birthday. Even though he has no insides, he is able to absorb candies (usually by rolling around in a pile of them) that he can give a sad child.
