To go from a malewife to a girlboss, all you need is years of hatred and an elaborate revenge scheme. Or: Let's make designs for more classic literature characters on a whim.

-------

In 1815, Edmond Dantes is a 19 year old sailor. He's not the smartest, but he has a heart of gold. Edmond loves everyone around him, for better or for worse. He's currently away from home on the ship he works on, but he aims to be home before the year is out.

Edmond spends his nights drinking and socializing with his other coworkers, telling stories of adventure and triumph. He loves watching the stars as well, knowing they'll someday lead him back home. And once he's home, he will surely marry the love of his life. He loves playing board games such as checkers, and his free time is usually spent staring out over the sea or playing card games with the captain or his friend, Danglars.

-------

In 1839, Edmond, 43, is quite a bit jaded. He's been through a lot, the main thing being wrongfully wasting away in prison for 14 years. After escaping, he sought revenge upon the men who dragged his promising life out from under him. And now, his plans are about to go into motion. No one will suspect that the enigmatic and wealthy Count of Monte Cristo who just arrived in Paris is the poor sailor boy back to haunt them.

The Count hides behind his newfound riches, pulling the strings of those around him. Vengeance has all but consumed him. He throws elaborate parties at his mansion in Versailles, talking the night away with the guests over a glass of wine. He occasionally gambles with a guest or two, friendliness masking his intent of malice.

Other than parties, The Count enjoys reading. He learned how to read during his time in prison, and he can't get enough of literature. In addition, swordfighting is something else he finds enjoyment in, as is going to watch operas. The Count also still retains his old love for the sea, staring out over the horizon from time to time to watch the waves crash.
