Profile

ruler is best described as a dictator, taking full control over his citizens and dictating how everyone should conduct their personal lives. he kills any rebellion and frequently goes on excursions to clear out neighboring settlements and forcibly assimilate the remaining civilians. THIS IS, OF COURSE, NOT A GOOD THING THAT HE DOES. ruler is not intended to depict or relate to any real world tragedy or oppression- his story is fictional and the world is highly fantastical, it is nothing more than run of the mill feudalistic story telling. do not 1. glean any morals from ruler or 2. compare or assume lessons within his fictional story to reality. this is not published media meant to impart a lesson, hes a loose oc and often the tone is lightly humorous within the contained context of his world. he is not meant to be taken seriously.

ABOUT

"You understand mechanical hands are the ruler of everything- I'm the ruler of everything in the end!"

Formerly Lawrence Percival Octavius Ramsey Sylvester Sterling Bartholomew Jr. II Esquire, the man lost his name with his humanity. His parents, clock and watch manufacturers, commissioned a son to be made in their image, who they neglected once they got their hands upon him. After some five years of this treatment, when his parents are eventually pursued by a mob for their various workplace violations and beg Lawrie to save them, he instead turns on them, killing them himself. In this endeavor, watching blood pool into his seams, he realizes himself as an object under the control of his parents and vows to make his own destiny, changing his name and employing his power of business suggestion and prediction to take over the world.

He is able to sell absolutely anything for any price. In this case, he manages to sell himself to the masses for the price of obedience, a feat which surprisingly works on enough people to at least have force on his side, and force he does employ on his new trek for world domination and "unity and peace across the New World". He uses his management skills to overthrow the masses, employing hypnosis to have the strong become obedient and using them to massacre those who do not submit. He leverages comfort and support over others, offering that they would be well taken care of in his kingdom if they only sacrifice their individuality and free will- and with his power, if they want to live, they will genuinely become husks of what they once were. But to Ruler, they are happy, so this could only ever be a net good.

Ruler of Everything doesn't want senseless violence, of course. He genuinely wants to see the New World, formerly scattered and struggling under the weight of magical corruption, unified under one force and, to him, held together under his guidance. He simply thinks the best way to see the world reaching its full potential demands he have a chokehold over every single person, and that all the people are too stupid to know what they really want, and personal fulfillment and happiness is under societal efficiency on the list of priorities. He has everyone live in his theoretically utopian kingdom where they can live mechanically mapped out lives while continuing to expand outwards, bringing back what can be salvaged and destroying everything otherwise. He likes to believe despite the carnage that he is best friends with everyone, and loves his subjects with all of his heart.

Yes, despite the viscious and bloody conquest left in his path, some might say the best way to describe Ruler is that he is a little sweetheart. He's genuinely very friendly and inquisitive, a passively pleasant person who is immensely patient yet passionate and always wanting to engage in insightful conversation, or simply to have a laugh- despite his position, he's sincerely humorous and loves to lean back and shoo away responsibilities if he can to be down to earth and interact with others. He's very frequently cheerful and peppy, no strings attached, not really hiding any deeper resentment or aggression. The core of Ruler is that he simply does not understand the gravity of what he does- he's not a person no matter how much he wishes he was, and the mental detachment means he's not disgusted by violence, he can't feel pain so he does not truly understand what anyone's screams mean, he's never loved his family so he cannot comprehend how he breaks apart others. He truly believes every person is a cog in the huge machine of society, and that the continued function of the world is far more important than any individual broken body he's wrought. It's all for the greater good, and anyways the conditions within his kingdom aren't terrible. Everyone is well kept, well sheltered, and free to pursue their interests if they work enough- and he's careful to oversee that they're all tasked with things that should be easy for them. He just sees people like an ant colony, or any other sort of beloved pest- he loves all the people, he truly, genuinely does, and wishes well for everyone, and wants desperately to bond with his subjects, believing them and him to be friends, but understands that the people are simply too helpless without him. Their complaints are like a child refusing to eat vegetables, you see, they don't know what's good for them! Every authority figure must contend with misplaced and misguided resentment from their subjects at one point or another, that's just how things are, or so he thinks. He's actually deeply sensitive and, while not easily offended, will break down if someone pushes just the right buttons and gets him to believe that he's hurting people- somehow, he does not think that he's hurting anyone, and is terrified of doing so. He's also considerably delusional, including believing himself to possibly be divine and a God among mortals, and insists upon being worshiped appropriately.

Generally, wellmeaning but extremely stupid and violent with cause, unwilling to listen to others about core concepts such as that individuals are above society as a whole and that personal freedom is crucial for human wellness. Aside from that, he spends a lot of time alone, usually looking over his kingdom and appreciating art whenever he has the free time.

DESIGN

  • Ruler of Everything is NOT a person but a wooden magical construct with a metallic skeleton and a clock inside his torso. On the outside, he appears like a human, built to be conventionally attractive and with a magical veneer cast over him that forces the viewer to interpet him as simply "handsome". His appearance changes depending on who's looking at him- whatever they consider a normal, handsome person, Ruler of Everything will look like it. He may look a bit uncanny with how seamless and beautifully smooth and perfect his face appears.
  • As Ruler of Everything's body doesn't function, he does not blush, sweat, or cry, though he does have perpetually rosy cheeks which you can stylize like jigsaw cheeks.
  • His eyes are brown-gold.
  • 5'5" LOL.

BACKGROUND

HEADER ONE

The New World is a fragmented, disjointed place. Every region is out for itself, and with magic thrown in the mix, most areas are terribly unstable and entirely unlike even their closest neighbors, so closed off from others and unwilling to have their worlds collide. Lawrence Percival Octavius Ramsey Sylvester Sterling Bartholomew Jr. II was commissioned in a relatively small victorian-esque area, barely touched by the industrial revolution. His parents, Lawrence ... Bartholoew Sr. and Cordelia Bartholomew are clock and watch manufacturers, attempting to make their hometown a touch more modern, controlling a few small factories. They want a heir while not really wanting a family, and finding themselves preferring not to bother raising a child, they have someone enchant a wooden shell to come alive, injected with false memories of being cared for. He is about 15ish when he comes to consciousness, and the next 5 years are spent utterly alone. His parents do not care at all about him and refuse to entertain any time with him, only rarely interacting with him to show him off or attempt to feed propaganda to him- they want him to think just how they do, that capitalism is the most important thing and must be taught to everyone- they may come from a backwards obsolete region, and it's your job to enlighten them, they insist. Under the neglect except for being bombarded with strange ideology, Lawrie grows supremely neurotic. He is immensely social, a sweet, curious young boy, but is punished for every attempts he makes to bond with others or ask questions, and he grows more and more frustrated by the day, left to his lonesome in the dark, barely even fed or tended to as he has no need for substenance. Unknown to him, outside the walls of his estate, his parents are committing terrible crimes- they have powers much like him (the power to force people into contracts), and they use it to force their workers to work until they literally die on their feet. When the deaths mount up, an angry mob comes for the family. Lawrence chooses to go out and investigate the screaming and raving outside his home and finds his parents being accosted by the mob- shocked, but finally hearing everyone insist upon his parents being terrible, awful people, and that their ways had caused numerous deaths, he snaps- he throws himself into the crowd, feeling no pain despite being pushed around, marching his way to his parents, wherein he tears the nearest weapon out of someone's arms and maims his parents himself. Awash with blood, he screams above the crowd, far too shaken to really show it, grown numb as it has all come crashing down upon him, telling the angry mob to simply listen to him. He has the power of the estate now as his parents heir, he has their money, and money is power- and that power can be to protect whoever comes to my side, whoever will keep me safe. He's afraid the crowd might turn on him, but a few are swayed with his magic, and they are physically strong enough to follow his next orders- if anyone comes for me, kill them. And he says to the rest, if you want to be spared, follow me. And so more and more fall into his web of magic temptation.
