THE PRESIDING JUDGE OF KRINOS, sariel is quick to lay down the law with a hard strike of his gavel. despite his firm hand, sariel is highly respected and an icon for the council. the judge is rarely seen outside of the courts despite his life being heavily televised. aeshma happily consumes every glimpse of him on screen and looks to sariel for direction as a result of astaroth's absence.

despite the respect his people have for him, he is feared throughout aeshma as someone who's unempathetic and rules with an impartial fist. in private, sariel is incredibly soft-spoken and smiles often, completely contradicting his work persona. he takes pride in his work and is secretly honored and embarassed by the fact that his citizens think so highly of him. he treasures the close relationships he has with his colleagues and finds the courtroom to be his safe place.
sariel still remembers the day the revolt that pushed the angels out of their high ranks came to an end. he was thousands of years younger then, but just as bright if not a tad bit more inexperienced. he was a well-known lawyer with a reputation for being wholeheartedly devoted to his clients' cases, and it was for that reason that he was called upon to represent the angel ambassador. little did he know, this act would drag him into the spotlight and catch the eye of the leader of the revolution, and later on, aeshma's new head.
many years have passed since sariel ascended to presiding judge, but his ideals have not changed. sariel carefully watches the courts and each case in fear of a return of the "angels." treason wasn't uncommon in the courts, but as time goes on, he's aghast by the rapidly increasing number of angel sympathizers. do they not see the pain and suffering they had forced onto the lower classes? he'd been priviliged, maybe, having been born into a wealthy family who had been on good terms with the ambassador... but he had seen the state of his client's lives under the angel's rule.
despite practically living in the public eye, sariel enjoys his various outings. although he's not permitted to cross into the human realm like many other demons do, he makes do and finds himself entertainment, often visiting the warden and helping overseeing the criminals that Sariel himself has locked away there.

when he first came into power, he agreed to join into a political marriage with astaroth. the two bicker often, sometimes in public, and are always portrayed as indifferent to eachother. as a result, countless rumors have been spread about potential abuse not only within their marriage, but within the council.
despite the tension over the years, sariel can admit he has found himself guilty of loving astaroth, even if the feeling dies off with every argument.
relationship
sariel can recall the day he found the little demon curled up in his rosebed, tear-stained and bare. he can recall just as well the trouble he made— refusing food and water out of pickiness, curling up in his big teapot, throwing loud, sobbing fits... fatherhood was unfamiliar to him, and he hadn't handled it well.
despite the stress, he believes lucien's grown up into a fine young man, and keeps contact with him on occasion.
