Enrollment

Daisuke had no future plans in mind, so he figured he'd just join the military after high school. But Daisuke's best friend saw more potential in him, and invited him to join a new branch led by his father for an intelligence agency, Daisuke knew it could be a difficult and maybe even risky job to even train for, but the career also offered great benefits that'd help Daisuke and his family live a comfortable life, so it didn't take much for his friend to convince him.

Accident

After a year of rigorous training it was time for the young candidates to undergo the final testing required to officially become agents. On the way to the mountain testing location where they'd meet the organization's lead director, who would oversee the testing, the truck of candidates got into a mysterious accident that led the vehicle to fly down a hill.

At the bottom of the hill the only one conscious was Daisuke's friend, who carried Daisuke and the emergency kit (containing medical supplies and a flare) outside of the truck with what little strength he had left. Before he could go back for the others the youth fell unconscious, and the vehicle exploded with everyone else still inside. That's when Daisuke finally came to, and noticed his friend passed out as the truck burned behind them. By instinct he scanned the area until he noticed the emergency kit by his friend. Daisuke was unable to stand and couldn't feel his legs, so he desperately began to crawl to the pack. Finally managing to reach out and grab it, he began dumping the contents out until he saw the flare gun and flares. Daisuke's adrenaline and instincts allowed him to successfully load the gun and shoot the flare into the sky to signal for help. He closed his eyes as the adrenaline faded, watching the flare shine in the sky.

Recovery

Daisuke later awoke in a hospital bed, his body numb on medication. The doctor arrived and unfolded the events of the situation, with Daisuke filling some blanks for him. The doctor then explained to him that his friend had been left in a coma, and if it weren't for Daisuke the two would've died before help would notice and arrive.

Daisuke wanted to go see his friend, but the doctor said that he was in no better condition than the other. There was a pause, and when Daisuke's confusion was obvious, the doctor had to explain with a heavy heart that the accident had severely injured Daisuke's legs to the point where amputation was necessary. The numb feeling then made sense to Daisuke, and he quickly threw off his blanket to see only half his legs. His knees covered in bandages.

After Daisuke's wounds healed, he decided to finally go and visit his comatose friend in a wheel chair. He was always one to stay strong and not cry, even when he found out about his legs, but Daisuke couldn't hold back tears anymore at the sight of the one who had always been by his side now in a coma. Nobody knew if or when they would ever wake up. Daisuke sat by his friend's side as he tearfully thanked him for pulling him out of wreckage, even if he lost his legs. Daisuke told his comatose friend he'd be eternally grateful if they were to eventually wake up.
