Adeline

 Backstory 

Adeline was born as Adder, the oldest of a set of Gorgon triplets with her younger sisters named Garter and Annie. Growing up parentless and alone, the three took care of each other as they grew up, with Addie feeling she had the most responsibility as the oldest. While she would sneak off into town and pickpocket and steal various supplies for her sisters, Garter acted as the fighting defender and Annie the creative builder. After a day of tricking people out of their money or food, Addie would return in the afternoons, or sometimes evenings, to take care of her siblings.

One day, tragedy struck. The small, thirteen-year-old sisters found themselves cornered by a large Aarakocra thug. He had taken advantage of Annie’s naive and trusting nature to lead him to the three siblings. He swiftly killed Annie, but Addie and Garter managed to escape. The two remaining sisters were thrown into their grief, and it wasn’t long before drastic changes began taking place.

From Addie’s point of view, she isolated herself in her own sorrow, which worsened when Garter decided to leave and study at a monastery. With her last family member gone, Addie began to spiral. She would cycle through feeling betrayed and angry for Garter choosing to leave her, then crippling despair and loneliness as she wished Annie would be there to comfort her.

As Addie grew up, she began to resent Garter for intentionally leaving her in her darkest hour and missing out on some of the most significant changes in her life, such as her transition, her decision to train as a rogue, etc. But with Garter’s long-lasting absence, those thoughts were pushed farther and farther to the back of Addie’s mind over the years. She had joined a thieve’s guild called the Miscreants of the Night to make ends meet and use her talents to the best of her abilities and was slowly becoming used to this way of life. That is, until one day, she heard a voice that sounded exactly like her lost sister Annie. This scared Addie, but she was reassured by being told of memories only Annie would know. Annie tells Addie that her soul has not yet passed on to the next world, and she can come back to life and be with her sister again. All Addie has to do is promise that she will do whatever it takes to bring Annie back to which Addie agrees, making a pact with the undead.

Current Status

Addie took her leave of the Miscreants and began a journey to resurrect her younger sister by any means necessary. She’s instructed to gather various supplies and travels to many far lands to gather rare artifacts for an eventual ritual, and this has been her life for the past few months.
