Amedeo Kenzie testing the limit of love

I can't understand, what am I doing wrong?

Summary

Amedeo just loves love so much, but it's not something he really understands. It's an exchange, he thinks. "I'm kind to them, they have to be kind to me." If every interaction doesn't go this way, it must be unhealthy. Isn't that love?

Amedeo is a member of his college's gamer club and roommates with the club leader, Kazooie. He was one of the first to join the club. Because of that, he feels really attached to the members of the club and tries so so hard to be friends with them. They're not all very fond of him in return though. And he just doesn't get it. He's being kind to them. Where's their kindness for him? It drives him nuts, not getting what he's doing wrong that keeps driving them away. They never bother to tell him. All he wants is to be their friend.

When someone offers to help him with his friendship problem, he's so eager to agree to anything. Through rose tinted glasses he can't see the blood on his hands.

Personality

Amedeo is very energetic and over the top about pretty much everything. It's loud! It can't sit still for long! It's always smiling and stimming! Its expressions and body language are always very exaggerated since it found it's the easiest way to get people to understand it.

It doesn't know what the hell personal space is. It's always up in everyone's business whether they want it to be or not. All it wants is to be close to people and it will do anything to make that happen. It regularly breaks peoples' boundaries and is surprised when they get pissed off. It easily starts to panic over the slightest hints of rejection, and expresses that through anger and becoming even more unreasonable about boundaries. It has aggressive mood swings because of little things that shouldn't matter to it, but they do.

(It mellows out once arc 3 begins. It still has a lot of trouble regulating its emotions but with the help of Therapy and Medication, it's gotten a much better handle on things. It finally starts to understand how badly it was fucking up the whole friendship thing, and tries again. It gets a lot quieter and not quite as energetic. It's a lot harder to get it angry over anything, to a fault sometimes.)

Trivia

  • Amedeo is a twitch streamer. He is not good at video games. He mainly streams speedrunning attempts, which take hours for games that most people only have to spend 1-2 hours on to play normally.
  • Amedeo has very loving parents and he still regularly calls them to say hi and catch up
  • He falls in love with every single person he meets. He can't help it.
  • He has never slept normally in his life, always managing to fall asleep in odd ways. His bed doesn't have a bedframe, but it's not like he uses it much anyways, more often falling asleep in closets, under bushes, on top of furniture, in cupboards, etc.

What have I ever done to deserve this? None of this was my fault! How can you possibly hate me for this when it was you who made me do it?
I've given you EVERYTHING!

Love's Sweet Beginnings

When Viorel comes to the human realm and joins the gamer club, they don't know what they've brought with them. No one knows that they have enemies, not even themself. So how was Amedeo to know? What was Amedeo supposed to do? When Vivian catches him in a conversation so conveniently out of sight from anyone who could see, when she offers him help becoming the ultimate friend, when she held his hand and whispered so sweetly in his ear, what else could he do but fall head over heels for her?

She's not asking for much in return. She just wants information on his friends, most of which is stuff he already knows. Friends don't keep secrets from each other, so Amedeo knows everything about them, whether they're aware he knows or not. Vivian just wants a little more. That's all. In exchange, she hands him a glass vial with an odd liquid. "It'll make you the perfect friend," she promises. So he drinks it all, and goes on his way to hold up his end of the bargain.

He comes back to see her every day, new information in hand every time. She always smiles so brightly at him. One day, she asks for something different. Something odd. But he doesn't question it. Back at the club, the other members give him odd looks, but he doesn't mind. The potion must've been working, they were finally looking at him! He reveled in the attention he deserved after all this time.

Aiden gets kidnapped.

It was ok in the end. Viorel saved them. They're fine. It wasn't Amedeo's fault. It couldn't have been Amedeo's fault. Vivian didn't tell him that's why she wanted Aiden there at that specific time, that WASN'T his fault, he led them there knowing she would be there too but it WASN'T HIS FAULT. She.. couldn't be trying to hurt his friends, she's trying to HELP. Right? Of course she is. The potions were working, he knew that, they had to be. Nobody knows Amedeo helped with Aiden's kidnapping so why should he stop? Vivian wants more from him and he... He loves her and what she's doing for him. She asks for more. She always asks for more.

For Better Or For Worse

Everyone knows. Its eyes are shaped like hearts, fangs start to grow in, little bug wings pop out of its back, its fingers are becoming claws. Everyone knows. Something is wrong and everyone knows. They avoid it even more now. When it enters the room everyone gets quieter and looks away. It doesn't understand.

The potions aren't working! As it gets worse and worse, everyone hates him more than they already did. Its mood swings are getting more violent and it knows it's happening but it can't make it stop. But why would it want this to stop? This is what it wanted, it's not ITS fault it's THEM. It's ALWAYS been them! WHY CAN'T THEY UNDERSTAND! IT'S DOING ALL OF THIS FOR THEM, WHY WON'T THEY LOOK AT IT ANYMORE? IT'S THEIR FAULT IT'S LIKE THIS! IT NEVER WANTED TO HURT THEM, THEY MADE IT DO IT WHEN THEY WOULDN'T LOOK AT IT, WHEN THEY REFUSED TO EVEN SAY HELLO, IT'S ALL THEIR FAULT THAt it snaps and Eden ends up in the hospital just because she tried to ask if it was ok and it attacked.

It's put to a vote, and everyone except Kazooie agrees Amedeo needs to be kicked out of the club. So it leaves. With nowhere else to go, it heads right back for Vivian's loving arms. But when it arrives, they aren't open for it. She's... disappointed. Annoyed. Angry. She interrupts its explanation, in disbelief that it could possible be so useless. Before it can respond, she forces one more vial of the potion down its throat, finishing what she started.

It was never getting any kind of magical friendship power. The potions had been slowly transforming it into a demon. Mindless creatures, so much easier to control. Amedeo is gone, and the creature it'd become took its place.

Vivian's partner, Engel, decides to keep it around despite Vivian wanting to get rid of it once and for all. Amedeo is much more tolerable in this form. So it stays with them. It couldn't have known any better.

A Beast Still Needs To Eat

All things considered... Amedeo isn't treated horribly as a demon. He's like a 6 foot tall cat. Engel gives him a little cat bed, lets him outside to hunt down his own food, and gives him pats and treats. It could be worse. It could be a lot better too.

Vivian hates how long Engel keeps Amedeo without an obvious use besides being a pet. She demands they find a use for him. And she knows just what to do with him. Just like she's already done with a different demon, she sends Amedeo to kill Viorel. But he's only a creature now, there's not a thought in his head. He waits so patiently in Viorel's closet for them to go to bed. He sneaks out without a sound, and stands at their bedside. And... hears a cough. Someone else wandering around. So he follows.

Viorel wakes up to Aidenโ€™s screams, and gets to them too late. Amedeo is already tearing them apart.

Viorel forces him back into human form, pinning him to the wall and this close to killing him themself. While Amedeo is barely coming to his senses, they force him to look at what he's done. He's just killed a friend. Amedeo panics, saying he can fix this, please god just let him try to fix it, and pulls out one of Vivianโ€™s potions. Between Viorel being incredibly violent with him and his shaky hands, he canโ€™t even get the potion to Aiden before dropping it, shattering the glass and splashing it all over their corpse and their computer which had fallen next to them during the struggle. What a waste.

Amedeo barely gets out of the manor alive, but it's just out of the frying pan and into the fire. Vivian finds him hours later, puts him back into demon form, and brings him home. He'd only had a short time to be a person again.

๐Ÿ‘ˆ๐Ÿ†˜๐Ÿ‘‰โœ…๐Ÿ˜Ÿ?

Amedeo wakes up again. It takes a second to recognize where it is. It's not sure why it's even awake. It has no clue how long it's been since Aiden... Before it can think further, it's dragged to its feet. ...Foot? One of its legs is... oddly shaped. Vidette shakes it and pulls its arm again, gesturing in a vague but frantic way. She starts to run, shushing it when it makes too much noise. It doesn't have time to think about this. It can hear Vivian somewhere nearby, and she's noticed it wasn't where it last was. She's going to find them. They run as fast as they can, but it's not enough. Vivian turns the corner, shock and anger on her face when she sees Amedeo back in human form. Her expression shifts to something different as her eyes glide past it and onto Vidette. She looks... terrified. Amedeo is shoved backwards by Vidette through a portal it hadn't noticed her make, she gestures at it to stay put, and the portal closes. Leaving it alone.

She'd left it in the backyard of Aiden's manor. Of course she did. Just its luck. Fighting down panic, it did as it was told and stayed put. ...For 3 days. It hid out there, too afraid to let anyone see it, too afraid to run. It kept living best it could. It must not have hid well enough, because it heard the door slam one day and saw Eden running towards it. It ran. It hadn't eaten or slept well in days, so it stumbled. Eden tackled it in a hug, panicked and asking what it was doing, if it was ok, god Amedeo you look horrible how long have you been out here??

It didn't know how to process it, but she begged it to come inside and eat something, to get some rest. So... it did. It couldn't understand. Why was she being so kind? Aiden was... and it had hurt her too? But she sat it down on the couch, grabbing some fruit snacks for it, reassuring it it was fine it could stay here, she'd convince Viorel to let it stay. It was going to be ok. She sat next to it, and it felt relaxed for the first time in a while. It fell asleep resting its head on hers. Finally, it was safe.

Becoming Something New

As Amedeo tried to process the acts of kindness given to him for the next few weeks, he had even more to process come at him. Aiden was ok, in a way. They were still very much dead, but they were stuck in a computer now. They still hated him, but their jabs and japes couldn't outweight the pure relief he felt. He finally had access to a phone to check his messages, and was met with hundreds from Kazooie. He couldn't bring himself to open them. He wasn't ready to face that he'd left him behind and disappeared without a trace. Vidette came back, eventually. Apparently she had thought Viorel could've helped Amedeo with his demon troubles, and that's why she left him there. An unfortunate misunderstanding, but it still felt incredibly thoughtful and kind.

Vidette had come on different business as well, and soon Viorel, Aiden, and Eden announced they were leaving for a bit. Regretfully, they asked Amedeo if he'd be able to watch over the manor and the 2 other residents, a 7 year old named Peach and another slightly reformed demon named Orias. Out of the 3 of them, Amedeo was, unfortunately, the most responsible adult. He told them no worries, he could handle it no problem!

As soon as they left, it all went to shit. Amedeo had no clue how to work with kids and Orias was made to cause problems on purpose. For the next couple weeks, Amedeo was in a state of constant anxiety and stress as Peach bullied him at every given moment and Orias encouraged her and ate the drywall. He didn't even know how to cook. Or clean actually. Peach kept demanding brownies and cookies and lollipops and he didn't know how many she was allowed to have so he just gave her all of them. Orias... well. Amedeo did not want to deal with Orias crawling ominously on the ceiling, so he didn't.

After the 3rd day of Peach and Orias tearing the bedsheets off of beds and painting on them, Amedeo broke down sobbing. He was the WORST. He was already struggling with so much, he couldn't believe he agreed to this. He was barely a functional person, much less a functional housekeeper and babysitter. Peach and Orias HATED him and he couldn't even blame them. He didn't even have the strength to tell his best friend he was still alive, how was he supposed to be able to do any of this? Viorel was going to kill him for this, he just knew it.

Nervously, Peach and Orias handed him the cleaned sheets. They hadn't meant to make him so upset, they were just playing. They'd start cleaning up after themselves and stop being so mean to him, they promised. Together they figured out how to work with each other and keep things functional between them. One day Amedeo offhandedly mentioned his birthday had passed and he completely forgot about it, and later Peach and Orias shoved a very burnt homemade cake at him. Things were alright.

They all vowed to not let Viorel know just how horrible they were at this. They would take this secret to their grave.

You Don't Know How Much You Miss Home Til You Leave

Finally in a more mentally stable place, and no longer playing babysitter since the others got back, Amedeo finally had to acknowledge the elephant in the room. Kazooie had stopped messaging it every day. His final message had been "do you want me to bring your stuff there now." Amedeo did leave so much stuff back at the apartment, and Kazooie was probably sick of it taking up space. It just... didn't know what to do. It wanted to come back so bad, but didn't know if he even wanted it there.

This shit was impossible to do over text. It went back to the apartment, and found it empty, so it waited for Kazooie to get back. Hours later, the door opened, and Amedeo jumped up to frantically explain itself. What happened, why it never responded, how hard its trying to get better, but most importantly that if Kazooie didn't want it here, it would grab its stuff and leave. Kazooie just stood there in silence until it stopped. And then punched it in the face, pulled it in for a hug, and started crying. And shoved it away, yelling about how it hasn't paid for rent for MONTHS. And hugged it again.

Amedeo happily moved back in, thrilled to be back with him. Neither of them wanted to leave each other alone ever again. They stayed within 5 feet of each other almost constantly. Amedeo would end up staying in Kazooie's room every night to make sure nothing bad happened to him, and he was always asking it how it was feeling and if it needed anything. It was so good, to love each other so freely. It was always a little easier getting through each day knowing the other was ok.

The End Of An Angel

Amedeo had gotten his happy ending. He rejoined the gamer club, since nobody really held it all against him. Some of them started to enjoy his company. New friends were always joining the club. It was home again.

Amedeo's story may have reached its conclusion, but Viorel's didn't. Vivian had apparently grown tired of waiting for someone else to kill them for her. She walked into the club room herself, claws ready, monologuing manically at them. Amedeo could barley hear her over the sound of his own panic. Eden and Aiden had put themselves in front of him, he noticed. He backed up, and Vivian laughed. She made some remark he didn't entirely process about how good of a beast he had been. He should've stayed as one.

She'd turned him into a killer. She'd taught him how to use his fangs. She'd taught him to hurt those he loved.

And unfortunately for her, he did love her.

Amedeo's head cleared, his focus shifting all onto her. Nothing else mattered. He had everything to lose. And he would not lose.

He tore her apart just like she'd made him do before. She was dead before he knew it. Everyone had just stood back and watched, and for a moment Amedeo remembered this must have been horrifying to them. He'd done it again, they were going to think he was a monster again. But Viorel told him he did good, they all started to look relieved, and he let himself relax. And then he immediately collapsed because Vivian had broken his ribs and he was in immense amounts of pain. Whoops

Love's Afterthoughts

Amedeo's story concludes there. He's too busy recovering from Bone Hurt to participate in the main plot the other characters are going through, so he and Kazooie spend the rest of the story just relaxing. Nothing else can hurt them anymore. He takes each day with excitement and love. He's changed, and he'll never forget thanks to the parts of his body that never fully changed back, but he's ok with it. He's done what he can. All that's left is to keep on living.

Quotes

If they're going to treat me like a villain then why does acting like one make them hate me more? I'm doing what you wanted, what you expected of me!

Please, don't let me go, please, let me stay, please please stop, what will it take what does it take to end this please make this stop

I don't deserve this, Eden. Your kindness would be better spent on someone else. You can't look at me and say you don't see a monster. So why... why do you share your kindness with me so easily?

It's these quiet moments, sitting with you and letting the world drift away, that I start to realize. The world's so much better when you're in it, and when I can be in it with you. You could leave me, and it'd be alright. I'd still remember this, and it would all be worth it. The thought of this keeps me going. I hope I'm giving that to you too. All I want is to give you one more reason to keep going.

Kazooie

Kazooie and Amedeo don't bother to choose a label for their relationship. They're besties, or something else entirely. They're roommates to people they don't want to explain it to, they're partners sometimes when Kazooie finds it easier or funnier. The label doesn't matter, because they love each other so much. They never really think to try to label whatever the hell they've got going on, because when it's just between them it's not important.

Eden

Despite everything, Eden and Amedeo end up very close. She offered him unbelievable amounts of kindness, and he never forgot that. When she showed up shaking and crying at the door, asking to talk to him alone, confessing to horrible things she'd done, not knowing who else she could turn to for help, he would have Killed for her. He would have done anything to make her smile. They understand each other in ways nobody else can.

Vivian

She broke him. He loved her, and she broke him.

13163790?1651647353
Aiden

Amedeo and Aiden WERE friends before he killed them. They didn't hate him like he thought they did. They were happy to spend time with him. After their death, they very reasonably hated him. They never would've tried to hurt him back, but they did at least mess with him and be incredibly annoying. He thought that was very fair of them. Incredibly annoying, but so so fair.

Time doesn't heal all wounds, but it does make them scar. Quite a bit of time into the story, their relationship is... comfortable. They can't really trust each other with anything major and would never want to be close, but they do enjoy spending time together and chilling.

14643192?1644091117
Peach

They had a rocky start, but Peach eventually warmed up to him. He's like her funny uncle that's always sneaking her candy when her parents aren't looking.

Viorel

Viorel wants him dead. Amedeo thinks that's fair.

15651047?1649895600
Vidette

She saved him and he still doesn't know why. She doesn't have an answer. Her kindness changed everything for Amedeo, because there was no reason for it. She was just kind to be kind. It flipped his world view on its head.

51426989_RG2.png
Reverie

Amedeo isn't stupid enough after the whole Vivian thing to not get the feeling Reverie is using him. They're almost TOO kind to him. It can be nice, but it puts him on edge. They insist they have no malicious intentions, they just enjoy his company. He does his best to believe them.
